Sneak a look at his tacklebox and look for the lures that look a little beat up and used. Those are the lures he likes and get used a lot. Then just get him more of the same. You can’t have too many of a good lure.

You could check out the lightweight Columbia performance fishing gear. I find these shirts great for fishing, especially if you need to hide from the sun when it’s hot out. Lightweight and breath easily, and the long sleeves version can be rolled up as it warms during the day.

OK, I think I found the rod rack…. does he store his rods inside the house ? I wouldn’t want anything that fancy in my garage… and quite honestly for $79… I’d pass. If he has a mancave or something, it might be ok, but if not, I’d skip it. Gif cards are boring but very appreciative !!

Agreed with the rest of the guys here. If he is a serious fisherman, he will have specific tastes and preferences that no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to get exactly right. A gift card plus maybe a few lures that match his beat up stuff will let him know you put some thought into it – and you want him to like his gift. Guys are simple….don’t over think it.

I like the rod rack you’re considering.

Does he have room for a floor rack somewhere?

I like the rod rack also, I store my rods inside and it sure would help organize them better although I may need two of them LOL. Good luck with your decision you sure got a wide range of opinions.

Personally I prefer CASH, then I can spend it where ever I find the best deals!

Wonder if wall or ceiling hanging rod racks might be more practical for the garage. We stack the rods in the corner so they are out of the way and have no rack to put them on.

What type of fishing does he like to do?

People say gift cards are so impersonal, but I don’t think a man has ever said that, palolo.

Just add a pretty steelhead fly to a card that holds the gift card and your man will he happy.

That is a cool rod rack and probably something he wouldn’t buy for himself. I like the idea

I am pretty sure he would be pretty happy with any “rack” you give him.

I personally don’t like it if my wife gives me a gift card. Anybody else that is welcome. I want to see if my wife pays attention and has some thought. I think you are doing the right thing. I personally like the wall rod racks for my garage.

One thing to consider is how high the ceiling is and how long his fishing rods are. If you have a 8′ ceiling and he has 8’6″ rods, that rack isn’t going to work too well.

Hit up palo outdoors and see if they have any demo rod racks in the basement. You might get a heck of a deal if they do. I have one of the old st Croix demo racks and it works and looks great.

Make your man a “hassle free card” that he can redeem with you for a fishing or hunting trip. That way if he has a trip he is interested in taking he doesn’t have to worry about your approval. He only has to worry about the cost and if he has the vacation time ect. You would be surprised the actual value he would place on that simple card. Throw in a gift card or something and you are good to go.

i agree with joe about the gift really being YOUR ACCEPTANCE of his addiction.

But, rod racks are works in progress, at least around here. A messy corner full of rods is an OK eyesore around here.

personally, i’d like the white fishing shirt, but that’s me.

now, what i’d really get him is a fishing trip for the two of you. my wife going with me to fish for 5 days sounds like heaven to me. (at least when i HAD a wife) No screaming, *****ing, moaning, etc. Stick $200 in an envelop and tell him you’ll schedule your vacation time to coordinate with his. That’ll put a smile on his face. I be the won’t believe you…

Wow you guys are awesome appreciate all the comments and opinions, just got back from gandermtn and the rack/box didn’t look as big as thought would be..anyhoo gonna put it together and see how it looks. I asked the clerk if I can bring it back if I don’t like it & he says ok .
I will attach a steelhead fly and gift card also.
    I’ll post a pic soon.

Oh and for hassle free card..we’re together bc of fishing both our passion.

And for the “rack” comments if I had a big one I wouldn’t need to get a rod rack.

I think a great Christmas gift from a gf/wife would be a fishing trip together somewhere. Maybe to Canada, maybe a great lakes adventure, something that is affordable yet sharing your fishing passion. Maybe a houseboat trip on Rainy lake with friends who like to fish/camp.

    Cash is king!

Somewhere, there is a Target 25.00 gift card from maybe 2004 that I have never used

There is a certain % of gift cards that never get redeemed.
