Wisconsin: Castle Doctrine Legislation Signed into Law!

Yesterday, Governor Scott Walker signed into law important self-defense legislation for the citizens of Wisconsin. Commonly known as the “Castle Doctrine,” Assembly Bill 69 will provide essential protections for law-abiding citizens who defend themselves and their families from a criminal looking to do them harm. This new law took effect immediately.

“Castle Doctrine” establishes the presumption that an individual who forcibly enters one’s home, business or occupied motor vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, and allows the use of force, including deadly force, against that person. This bill also eliminates any “duty to retreat” so that law-abiding citizens no longer must turn their back on a criminal and try to run when attacked.

Finally, AB 69 provides that any person who uses force, authorized by law, shall not be prosecuted for using such force and also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them. In short, it restores rights to law-abiding people and forces judges and prosecutors to focus on protecting victims.

Please contact Governor Walker at [email protected] to thank him for signing Assembly Bill 69 into law and the right to self-defense for Wisconsinites.

Scott Walker must have received a couple of threatening letters recently.

Just sent him an e-mail, even though I live in Minnesota it is good to see our neighbors adopting more liberal laws to protect gun owners and their families.

Would be nice to see us follow in their foot steps..

Seldom do we see common sense in our law makers but common sense tells me if some one comes in my house uninvited
why else but to do me harm?
Lets push for all 50 states to adopt this common sense law.

It looks like the wrongful death law suit is history. That is a huge relief if you turn out to be a shooter.

I agree completely in the right to defend my family and home with lethal force if necessary. That being said, does anyone else find it disturbing that we live in such a sue-happy society that we actually need legislation protecting US for defending our homes and families???

Hooray for THE Common Sense law that has been passed. To even think that someone who entered my house to cuase harm or death, and ended up getting his or her [censored] shot off, that their family could have come back to sue me. WTF. Way to Go Walker and State of WI!!!

This law is far from being liberal.

I believe that was a literal use of the word, not political.

I wish a bit of that common sense would take a ride on the west winds and end up in St Paul.

Mmmm, the White Castle doctrine. Let it be decreed that everyone must eat once a week or before ice fishing with your buddies in a portable or shack.

That would make it pretty hard to “stand your ground”, I would think.

Wisconsin passed one of the toughest Castle Doctrine laws in the nation! A law which finally protects the victims of an assault rather than the perpetrators! Thanks Governor Walker!

I joined this forum tonight and I would like to remind the members of the rules. “Posts of political or religious nature will be deleted” I came here to enjoy fishing conversations and find this thread. Life is too short to be mixing politics with fishing. Everyone has their own opinions but there is a time and place for them.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I didn’t have a signature until I read this thread. Just saying, there is a reason for rules in forums and they should be followed. I will change my sig.
