I currently have a Linksys router which is acting up and dropping the connection, unplug it for a few minutes and usually it is good to go again.

Need recommendations for a new router. Have one other PC and a lap top that I use in the garage that uses the WIFI connection. The lap top in the garage only has good WIFI connection if I am closest to the house. Approximately 50 feet the closest and 90 the farthest. At 90 feet the connection is intermittent.

    What say yee????????

Here is the one I got after looking 4 a router a couple years ago – add upgraded firmware and this baby rocks
    Router
Best thing I have ever got – never drops out
Power has to go out before this will

I have it in my basement and can connect anywhere in the house – have had neighbors tell me that they can connect if I give them the password

Can hook printer to it and print from any PC in the house

I installed Tomato on mine – software that comes with it is not as good as what U can flash to it

I have had a D-Link router for several years that has been rock solid.

get a verizon hotspot, no router required and you can take it anywhere you go.

How old is the laptop, does it have a G or N wireless card in it? What model router do you currently have, is it G or N?

N will transmit much farther and faster than G, so that would be your biggest concern. If the Laptop is only G it will not gain you much if anything by adding an N router. I would still get an N router even if the laptop is only G, but that would explain part of your distance problem.

all manufactures are basically the same.

We had the same problem losing the internet, we found out that our site was unsecured( so the kids could use it when they came home as well as all the neighbors were. We changed it to a secured site and hasn’t done it since, the only problems were the neighbors complaining that they couldn’t use our internet anymore.

Can a modem be coded if it isn’t from your server ?
