Do not know where the best deal is but you missed Black Friday and you have 3 hours left for Cyber Monday.Get a Intel Core i3 or i5. Stay away from AMD, I use a Dell and like it alot.
November 29, 2011 at 2:18 am #1012836I’ve had good luck with tiger direct. Both makers have good and bad chips, I wouldn’t rule out AMD, find something in your price range and ask back for reviews.
November 29, 2011 at 2:19 am #1012837My wife is looking for one as well and she asked me to look tonight. One thing you need to arm yourself with is knowledge of what you want out of it and what you need in it. You’ll spin your head off your shoulders if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
One of the top places I’d start to look is: http://www.newegg.com I’ve bought stuff there before and haven’t had any issues whatsoever.
Then there’s the obvious places like dell.com & amazon.com.
One last place that I surf daily is slickdeals.net. Keep an eye on this place, as new deals pop up regularly.
One thing I always keep in the back of my mind, is where will I take this unit if it goes down. Many times, by buying something through the internet getting decent repair service can be tough. That’s why pricing online and buying local is the safest bet. Always ask the local places to price match. Most of them won’t want you to walk out the door with your money in your pocket.

On the contrary…I bought a Dell from a “non-Dell” sight. I had issues with it within the warranty period and they sent a tech to my house to fix it within a day. That was about 2 1/2 years ago and am not sure they still have the same warranty.
BTW…the system itself is a piece of poop
November 29, 2011 at 3:07 am #1012852Hi Steve, if you are not stuck on brand names check into asus brand laptops. Most of the laptops and desktops out there use asus components except for the processors. I have had my asus for three years now and I have had zero problems with it and as a college student it gets hauled around alot and used alot. I was able to pick mine up at a lower price then the brand names and got a bigger screen HD and the biggest graphics card they make for a laptop. As always to each their own but if you are looking to maximize your dollars it is worth taking a look at and comparing.
Good Luck in your search
November 29, 2011 at 3:28 am #1012856Ditto what Finhunter just said>ASUS, makes ‘about’ every bodies motherboards, and they are great boards, plus loaded with great graphic cards, ‘net’card, plus+…Just saw one in an add over the weekend to 288$=tx with 15.6 screen, 320 gig HD, 4mbRAM….I shoulda got one myself…..don’t confus ASUS w/Acer>NOT THE SAME! Good luck. As for processors, Intel and AMD as long as they are ‘DUAL CORE’ you’ll be just fine.

I’m definitely no expert by any means, but during the Holidays last year I went through Best Buy’s website and found an HP for a really good price. IMO. Just let them know what you want it loaded with and they will have it delivered to your door in less than a week. Worked for me!November 29, 2011 at 5:47 am #1012870Cheapest solution might be to just clean up your existing system, defrag the hard drive, and remove old browser files.
I have an older PC with Window’s XP, Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor, and 2 GB of DRAM…
My Norton Utilities was up for renewal, so decided to uninstall it and install Microsoft Essentials for Windows XP (32 bit) instead of renewing as my PC has been running very slowly and I figured it was due to Norton. Before, it was taking a full minute to load up my outlook and about 30 minutes to open an e-mail letter. System runs way faster now!
Even I am a little surprised.

November 29, 2011 at 2:27 pm #1012931I picked up a Dell Vostro laptop, went online and ordered from Dell, it’s in the business section and it allows you to fine tune with what ever programs you want, without some of the standard options you may not need or want to pay for.

November 29, 2011 at 3:07 pm #1012947my brother and i bought Dell laptop through work place for good discount(the same year), but we wish we haven’t done it.I have to sent it back for a new one right away because it would not power up.
within that first year i have mine replace keyboard, hard drive and power supply cable. after the warranted expired the battery stop charging completely. if i want to used it on my lap i have to put book underneath, because it getting too hot . my brother have his screen replace twice and still didn’t fix the problem(one in while the screen just go very dark for no reason). I end up give my laptop away.
YES, THE IN HOUSE SERVICE IS FAST FROM DELL, but i rather not having them come at all.

From what I have been told you should always have something under a laptop rather than just setting it on you lap, I have a board made just for this, from what I understand it has something to do with frying the battery if you use nothing at all.
