For all you airbrushing experts out there, how do you go about getting any kind of metallic flake on your baits. I have not been able to find any fleck airbrush paint. I’ve been looking for silver and gold fleck paint.

Do you just sprinkle ultra fine glitter on the bait and go over it with a clear coat? I know there is glitter spray paint and that could maybe be used the spray is fine enough.

    Thanks,

I know a few people that use a very medieval method of putting the glitter in their hand or on a sheet of paper and gently blowing the glitter onto the paint.

Try going to napa or any automotive store and purchase metallic paint additive. I am not sure prices or what they have for amounts, quarts, gallons etc., but it will be the size fleck you need.

Airbrushes have notoriously small jets and probably can’t handle the size of glitter you’re using. A 4 ounce cup gun is an alternative to the airbrush, but you’d need a compressor larger enough to handle the air demands along with a regulator and water trap.

As mentioned, you’ll have all sorts of problems getting glitter of any size through a fine airbrush. I would spray an light layer of clear, sprinkler glitter and then re-clear. Do over as you want more and thicker layers.

Go to the “Craft” aisle at WalMart. They have glitter paints that you brush on. The more coats you put on, the denser the glitter. Try it ,then clear over it.

I dip my crank baits in a clear sealant after painting and I put the glitter in that not the paint.
