If you just want to read books on them, then the black/white nook or kindle are the way to go. They’re much better in the sunlight and with glare etc…

I have a nook color that I rooted and put an android operating system on. It’s a great tablet, but it’s not worth much in the direct sunlight.

We have had an ipad 2 for about a year now. Love it. Endless apps, great for kids. Would purchase another one again in a second. Actually, my daughter uses it all the time so I am thinking I should get my own!

I use the I Pad for reading, web surfing, and of course IDO. The lap top just sits there.

I also have a Nook Color (NC) and I really like it. I bought last May. I decided on the NC because you can download library books. I have found that I don’t do that as much as I thought I would usually because there are no available copies to check out. The battery life is not as good as I would like but if you turn off the WiFi when you aren’t using it then it lasts longer. Direct sunlight is definitely a problem. So, no reading in the boat for me but I do use my NC every day while riding the bus to work. It has been a good investment for me.

iPad 2 is great just wish you could read it easier in Sunlight. I love it on the boat with the Navionics app.

My wife just took delivery of the new Kindle Fire yesterday. She put her name in for one the day they announced them.

Very cool. Not as big and clunky as an iPad, but bigger than a smartphone so easier to use for web surfing. It runs a version of Android, so I’ll be looking to see what the applications are that can be downloaded.

Worth considering for $200. Certainly a good option if you want functions beyond an eReader, but don’t want to shell out $500+++ for an iPad.

my dad has the kindle fire. once again, flash makes it someone more usable than my ipad (i have one i got from work for presentations and stuff) outside of the cameras and the countless fart sound apps for the ipad, i would have no problem swapping the 500dollar ipad for the 200 dollar fire.

but for reading, i prefer a kindle or good ole book. i can’t read for long on the ipad.
