After checking the web, I think this is a Smallmouth Buffalo and possibly the state record. I think the record is 14lb something and this one was close. Can anyone identify it by the picture. Caught on P4 on Saturday and released – LOL!

Was it a slimy bugger? I had to hold the 2 my nephew has caught because of the slime. I swore I had to wash my pants twice to get it out.

Now don’t take that as me not wanting to catch another one.

It was all of 10lbs. That is hilarious, my Carhart still has white stuff on it that looks like I painted it with exterior white paint. LOL!

Definately smallmouth buffalo. Thats funny you guys mention the slime. I normally never, never fish out of the boat and swim on the same outing, usually strictly fishing, but this past summer I caught about a 20 lber (they get much larger south of you guys, Nebraska state record is 56 lb. 3 oz.)first one I had ever caught and my nephews insisted on getting it in the boat for photos. Got slimed like I never thought possible…incredibly gross amount of slime on me and on the boats carpet. Was so gross had to jump in the lake and get cleaned off and even then did not get all the slime off my shorts and shirt. Had it in the livewell for pics and released fish but did not drain the livewell and the next afternoon on a 95 degree day open the livewell hatch and had the most horrendeous stench you could ever imagine. Never seen anything like it

FYI – Looks like both the MN and WI State record smallmouth Buffalo are exactly 20LBS.

It comes out eventually. Very strange though grabbing the shorts I fish with out of the drier and they were still splattered.

I wonder why their slime seems so much more sticky. I don’t think another fish has quite the same slime, at least I haven’t had the problem with other fish.

Yeah, I was guessing around 12lb-13lb also. Thanks for the info on the state record, I must have found an old record. Maybe there is some secret use for their slime, like a sealant or something. Ha Ha!

Funny you should say that as I was thinking maybe there is some odd application for it. Who knows, maybe the cure for cancer is in that slime!
