My latest project is building a Switch Rod. This is a two-handed, 10 foot 8 inch eight weight fly rod. The blank is a Batson Rainshadow. I’m making one for me and one for a friend of mine. It was tough reaming out those cork handles to get the right fit, not to mention there are 10 guides so there was a lot of wrapping to do. The next step is to coat the wrappings with finish epoxy. Can’t wait to throw a long line with a new flyrod!

Sweet! I have a rainshadow that I had cutom made for mainly panfish, but have used it for other species like s.m.bass. It is one of my favorite rods to use. I am just getting into fly fishing and was hinking about having another one made for flyfishing. I am sure you will enjoy the he__ out the what you built, they look great.

Great looking rods. I am going steelhead fishing his weekend and have the enormous pleasure of being guided by the one and only Pete Humphreys. One of thethe best speybet casters i have ever seen. I would love to take one of those win me. Let me know him those perform because in the next year or so I will be looking for a good chrome/bonefish rod.

Jack, these rods are all the rage with the Steelhead guys right now. With the right line you can make a very long cast with no back cast. They work very well on a medium sized river that has brushy , wooded shorelines. I can see myself using this rod for Smallmouth on rivers like the Kettle or the Snake. You can also cast them in the usual way and achieve long distances too. Fishing around the mouths of Lake Superior tributaries, for example. And last but not least, I really want to go to Michigan and fish for Salmon. This will be a great rod for that. If you search on “switch rod” on Youtube there are quite a few videos that show them in use. This is going to be fun!
