can anyone point in the right direction for a 2005, dodge grand caravan SXT? Also what is the cost for something like this? I have a great mechanic that can install one, but I want to shop and buy it.

    Thanks,

don’t put it ON the block, put it IN a hose at the BOTTOM of the engine. Convection will warm the entire engine. Go to NAPA and they will help you to pick a good unit. Just ask them for the unit with the fewest returns.

    Why Not

Look and see that van may already have one from the factory and the cord was never pulled out for use, cord should be if factory installed on drivers side of engine compartment.

It gets better flow i’m told and is also an easier install laying on your back in the ice and snow…

I would put it in the block, its called a block heater for a reason. Sure the hose heaters are easier to put in , but you get what you pay for. Good luck regardless.

I’ve been using block heaters for over thirty years and I would definetly install it in the block. Hose heater do work pretty well but a block heater is more effiecient at getting the block warm. Yes they are little more difficult to put in but you said you had a mechanic to do the work for you, so it will cost a little bit more but I am sure your mechanic can handle it and it will be money well spent. Good luck with your decision, either way they both help the block heater just helps more. If it matters I was a mechanic for GM at one time.

Shop for a block heater? The majority of cost is labor. Since you have that covered I dont think the materials are any thing to worry about.
