I really don’t know how businesses can continue to offer free shipping. Yesterday we filled my 24′ straight truck and (2) 5 gallon cans for the pressure washer. Total…..$290.00! $4.14 for diesel. This morning I saw at a different station $4.09 for diesel.
Maybe if you buy inventory by the semi load you can afford free shipping but a little guy like me it almost kills us.

Add that price into what it costs to go bid jobs and fuel is killing me.

I hate to keep whining about it but the cost is just crazy.

If you have a phone that operates on the android market down load yourself the app. GAS BUDDY its free and may be able to help you find the cheapest fuel in your area. I know this won’t make much difference only about a $4 savings that time, but every little bit can help. Good luck…

NOT that this will help on any short term basis, but it was neat to see Williston, ND booming. BOOMING? A bright side of an otherwise “gloomy” economy. They said they have nearly 3000 job openings. If you can turn a wrench $80,000.00. I say WOWSER to that. My grandpa lives a bit north of there in Crosby, ND. I’ve been there many many many times. An otherwise “Ghostly” landscape void of new $$ has received a bit of a KICK. Fun to see really. Now hopefully America can effectively use this drilling in a positive economic fashion. We’ll see.

I’ve thought about going to ND for a while, but $80k isn’t enough to keep me away from my family for any amount of time.

    Do they need web developers?

There was a report last week that Williston has the highest paid strippers (fancy dancers)in the country averaging $1,500-$2,000 per night.

I provide a service and charge travel time & mileage one way. I eat the cost of bids. If I think someone is just fishing for a free plan I tell them its $100 for an evaluation and they will be credited if they go with the job. I don’t think I’ve ever charged the $100 but it does weed a few out.

I’ve got some friends from college who are electricians that are working up there. It’s absolutely crazy the money they are pulling in. They own every toy a man should now.

It’s like the Alaska pipeline back in the 70’s. Lots of money to be made for those who are hard workers and able to get there.

I don’t believe the “free shipping” nonsense anyway. Businesses figure in all their expenses. If they don’t they might not be in business very long. The cost of the shipping is in the price for the item(s).

For my business I price my used equipment. If you come up to buy for $700.00 and insist on free delivery I’m kinda stuck. Either give free delivery or chance loosing the deal.(I have lost deals for not giving free delivery.) So, if it costs me, say $50.00 in fuel and 2 hours labor that $700 takes quit a hit.

It’s not just the cost of fuel. It’s everything. Taxes, insurance, labor, utilities ect., ect.

Guess I’m just pissing & moaning today.

I’m not certain what you are shipping but there is a ton of cost effective methods to save your time, money and wear & tear on your vehicles. If you want some help finding it I would be happy to help you out.

    Thanks for the offer.

I ship restaurant equipment. I wouldn’t allow a common carried within 100 yards of my place. We destroy enough stuff on our own without letting anybody else handle things.

Depending on your living and/or shop situation, you might consider your own bulk tank and then taking fuel deliveries. If you have an account with a Co-Op, many give you a discount for bulk buys, some offer a discount for paying cash on delivery, and some offer the ability to contract buy and therefore lock in prices when the cost is low.

If you’re going through a lot of fuel, the savings could be well worth the up-front investment in a tank.

The only problem out in North Dakota is housing. A buddy’s 22 year old kid is out there working making $1500-$2000 per week but his rent is $1100 per month to sleep in a bunk bed in a trailer house that looks like it should have been scrapped !! There are 8 guys staying in that trailer ……

funny. I was reading about WIlliston yesterday and yeah, tons of cash to be made, but nowhere to live. Sounds like the oil companies are bringing in these metal building or something so guys can live right on site.
