Eating Saugers

    I’m just curious…

I’ve eaten a fair number of walleyes and saug-dogs from Pool 4. The walleyes are always perfect, but the dogs usually seem mushy. I’m cooking them the same, but never get walleye results from saugers. Do you all notice a difference or am I crazy? Thanks!

I just ate some pool 4 sauger and walleye tonight. Caught them Friday.

Had two sauger about 16″ and a walleye that was 17.5″, all males.

I never tasted or felt a difference in them and don’t recall it from the past.

Darn it, you better not get my imagination going here now. If my next sauger tastes like a Firestone you’ll owe me a beer!

John, I’ve noticed that too on the Croix, but only a couple times. Most of the time I can’t tell the differance…

Turn the heat up on the stove, fry ’em a little crisper!

I’ve never noticed the difference between Pool 4 eyes and sauger. I’ve got a buddy that claims he can taste the difference between river fish and lake fish though. I think he drinks too much!!!

I’ve knoticed a difference as well. I found that the Saugers seem to cook faster than the walleyes and by removeing them from the oil a little sooner makes some difference.
