I don’t know where Suzuki comes up with these, but if anyone sees Mike, check if his hand is bandaged and report back!!

Photo two posts down…if your squeamish…you’ve been warned!!

    **************

This photo was taken on a cell phone last week after the guy took his friend to xxxxxxxx to buy his first bow. The clerk was ‘assisting’ him in zeroing it in, and, after shooting several arrows, making adjustments etc., the clerk accidently handed him an arrow that was too short.

When he drew back, the arrow tip fell down onto his hand and he somehow released it. They rode to the hospital with the bow in his buddy’s hand because it impaled his finger also! They are both archery amateurs (I’m thinking the clerk is also?). I don’t think the guy who got shot ever had held a bow prior, let alone shoot one…OUCH!

I was feeling bad that I did not get back into the bow hunting this fall like I had planned. That picture helped me feel a little better.

Does this qualify for a Darwin award or a “Hold my beer and watch this”?

Whether photo-shopped or not it still looks like it would hurt.

Almost been there. I went out to shoot a couple arrows in my driveway with the target butt in the garage. I’d just lit the grill and must have had some grease from the grill on my bow hand. When I hit full draw I felt the handle move ever so slightly in the bow hand and went to let up on the draw. Wrong move. As soon as I hit the peak backing off the bow was ripped out of my hand and came strainght back with the 3/8″ steel cable guard rod going into my hand between the middle and third finger, exiting below the ball in the palm of my hand. Somehow I managed to not hit any tendons or bone structures. The cable slide was tight to the web between those fingers and about three inches of the rod was visible where it come out of the flesh in my palm. I don’t recommend anyone trying this without some serious drug use before hand. Booze won’t do it.

What made me think after-the-fact was that my release was still at the corner of my mouth when the bow came out of the hand. Three inches to the right and I’d have been dead if that cable guard had gone off at an angle.

No way a arrow out of a Hostage rest would do that, if its true the guy needs to get on impossible shots

And why are the fletchings peeled off and still a bunch of arrow to the left. Seems fishy. I’ve had the arrow jump off the rest plenty of times in the old days.

Can’t blame the equipment on that one. Pure adrenaline overload.

Some puncture wounds don’t bleed much until you pull out the object that punctured you.

I put a 7/0 hook through my toe earlier this year (on my 1 year anniversary ) and there wasn’t any blood until I clipped the hook and pulled it back through.

Heck, I saw someone get their leg sliced open almost down to the bone in a rugby match a few years ago and there wasn’t any blood at all. I guess some things just don’t bleed.

So… a too long overdraw set up? I know on mine I’m drawing back past my hand. Bet he’s glad it was a field point.

One thing about it, the arrow has fixed his hand into a a great shooting position! His grip form is impeccable considering he just stabbed himself. I would have suggested a bow sling instead if I was the salesman
