Went out to Webster SD Thursday for couple of days of fishing. We knew the weather forecast was calling for wind, but we thought we could find somewhere to find fish that would be somewhat protected and out of harms way. Boy was I wrong. Winds started out Thurs morning at about 20 mph and we took advice and fished a lake with an island that would protect us. As day went on winds got stronger and stronger. At 4:00 we decided to go in and cross the 3/4 mile stretch back to the ramp and it was the trip from hell. Directly into the 35-40 mph wind we went and fought 4 1/2 to 5 foot breakers all the way in. I tried to trim up motor and go in slow but my Triton Allure would go over one wave and dive into the next putting 15 gallons of water in over the windshield at a time. With bilge going full bore and my fishing partner bailing water we finally made it to shore 45 min later. I now fully appreciate the wind and will not put myself in that situation again. I had serious thoughts whether I would make it in and thank god that I did and lived to tell about it. Lesson learned!
