Can’t get an answer on IDO, it can’t be fixed.

    94 Olds Cutlass.

    VAT System acting up…

The “security” light is always on and “sometimes” the car won’t start. Wait a while and it takes right off.

The light stays on when using either keys.

I can’t see putting $350 for a new ignition switch in…any way around the Vehicle Anti Theft system?

    Thanks All!!

If I was there it would be fixed in a half hour….(chip key bypass)

Take an ohm meter and measure the resistance of the key chip. Then get a resistor of the same value or at least close. Under the dash you will find 2 gray wires, at least I think they are gray. They will be separate from all the other wires. There is a small connector, unhook the connector and connect the resister across the wires that go to the VAT module, the ones that don’t go up the steering column. Now you can use regular non VAT keys.

    Thanks Brad,

I’m guessing the VAT keys won’t work after I installed the resistor?

Had the same problem on our 2005 Ford 500, It would lock up the system to were the car wouldn’t even crank over. kept telling the dealer of the problem, they said they couldn’t find anything wrong(typical) . Finally after having to have the car towed. I told the service manager to take the car home for several days, and sure enough it acted up on him. They tore out the security wiring harness and wola (problem solved) haven’t had a lick of trouble since…

Any key that will turn your ignition will work. In other words, you can just use your same old keys. Since the system is bybassed, the resistors in your keys become redundent.

    But but but….

If I use the VAT keys AND have a resistor in line there will be twice the resistance.

I’m not claiming I know what I’m talking about…just want to make sure I can move it afterward.

You’ve spent most of your adult life in a household that included you plus two females.
You should be used to operating with twice the resistance.

I’d assume you don’t hook the key circuit part back up, just leave the resistor plugged in??

    Ahh! Thanks Allen. Got it!

Don, two females in the same house equal 4 x the resistance.

Once you unhook the wires from the steering column, the VAT key is out of the system. Any key will work.

    Brian,

You could just pull out your pistol and shoot it. Then it won’t bother you anymore…

Only works on snakes and kidney stones. Speaking from experience.
