Amen! it drives me crazy! As soon as the good sport starts (hockey) bball highlights are everywhere lol, and you barely hear about hockey anymore. Drives me crazy! ESPN needs divisions so us northern people can watch highlights of the true northern sport.

We already have one improperly named “North” station.
As for the NBA, I would not miss it in the least.

NBC bought Versus. They will upgrade the Hockey productions on Versus and also put more Hockey over the air on NBC.

Still ranks as a all time blunder when Bettman dumped ESPN and moved their games to Versus. I’m truly surprised he wasn’t fired for that.

I wouldn’t trust NBC to do anything smart. They have the broadcast rights to the entire Rugby World Cup.

It’s the 3rd largest sporting event on earth behind the summer Olympics and the soccer world cup. There are 48 matches in total that they could air at any time of day or night.

NBC is airing 3 matches. That’s it.

While Rugby maybe big in the world it obviously isn’t in the United States. If the worst (NBC) network can’t make a profit on Rugby how much interest is there?

The only network who can force feed the public a sport it doesn’t really want is ESPN. They can do that because they have several outlets and are more international. Otherwise I can’t see them making any money on Soccer. But it is interesting they started with Australian rules football all those years ago.

But, thats just my old fashion opinion.

apparently you haven’t been watching much of either lately to be making a statement like that.

I don’t think losing ESPN was Bettman’s fault. It was ESPN. Up to that point they were awesome because with ESPN and ESPN2 they aired all the playoff games and many out of market regular season games.

But now NBC/VERSUS is doing a pretty good job with a couple hockey nights a week and almost every playoff game.

But I still miss Melrose, Thorne and Clement. I wish they would get better broadcasters on FSN too.

The NHL Network also used to carry the full HNC (if you don’t know, you don’t need to) on Saturday, but now they only broadcast the first half. I think that is Canada’s networks doing.

It may not be the most popular sport here, but there are nearly 500,000 currently active players in the US. NBC paid millions of dollars for the exclusive broadcast rights last year in anticipation of the NFL lockout.

You can’t convince me that they’re making more ad revenue from “This Week in Quilting” or whatever junk they air at 2:00am than they would from playing a sporting event.

    Just my new fashioned opinion.

i think we’d take to rugby as a country tv wise if it was put into more prime time spots. the rules aren’t complicated and its very violent. whats not to like.

Hockey Night In Canada is very entertaining. It’s interesting to hear a totally different slant on the game then us Americans put on it. And then there are the cloths Don Cherry struts around in.

Melrose, Thorne & Clement are the best currently out there although I still think Doc Emmrick? (forgot his name) is absolutely great!

I really liked the guy from ESPN who died a few years back also.

Doc does do a nice job, but then you have Milbury and Pierre McGuire are absolutely horrible.

Oh and I like Jim Hughson’s calls of the game, just because he’s got a good voice.

For some reason I can’t listen to the TV coverage of the Wild. I like Reid and Kurtz on the radio but those TV guys……………

Used to enjoy basketball way back when Bird and them played for Boston.

I have to agree, it’s a lot different now, but seems it’s not only the Basketball players that can’t behave unfortnately.
