If I recall, they know how to make $$. Didn’t get mine. After weighing out the benefits, I’ll go buy a new crankbait for $6 and keep my club dues.

I was a member for a few years. Liked the magazine alright. I got a decent amount of “field test” items, though nothing too great. I basically look at the “dues” as a subscription fee for the magazine and the field test items as a bonus. I let my membership lapse, but I would join again.
In order to get field test items, you need to fill out an application after each item you receive. It’s easy to do online.

It’s a big club.. if you have $$ your in… although they will send you a pack of 3 or 4 black hooks to “fieldtest”….

their magazine has gone down hill. they send you items you did not request or ask for. the only test items i received in 5 years were wingit bobbers and enormous salt water circle hooks.

I hear a lot of people say they don’t get things to field test. If you follow their instructions to a T, you will. I would get things every few months. I was a member for three years or so. Things I remember getting: a mesh bag that goes in your livewell, a set of fillet knives, an Uglystik…there’s more, it’s just been a few years.

Itwas my “dis-pleasure” to be very involved with NAMG, which is the parent organization for NAF. The whole system (a number of “affinty clubs”)is in MHO, a front with little benefit to subscribers. Yes, you got a pack of hooks initially ( two years ago there was still a full warehouse skid of them in the rack)and a chance to field test products.
However, the main focus of NAMG itself is to encourage “life membership”, whereupon, a subscriber was inundated with further “offers” of free product.
Bottom line is that nothing is truly free with NAMG.
I would venture that so much more knowledge can be gained here at IDO fishing, than at NAF, that the cost of a subscription is much better spent on new tackle.
Just the 2 cents of a guy who knows…

I used to work for them when it was owned by the Burkes. It was a good company to work for back then. Then I went in for a job interview a few years ago to find they sold it. The same company also has other clubs now like gardening and poop.

I was with them a while back and didn’t renew. I just recently signed up again…so far I have gotten a good spool of Trilene, a rapala and 3 fairly decent fillet knives and it has only been about 4-5 months.
I doubt I will reup though and I definitely won’t be going for the life membership. I did the 3 year deal when I signed up and they are already hitting me up to extend another 3 years and dangling more fillet knives to sweeten the deal which I don’t need so not much of a carrot to dangle.

Might be worth it for a while to get some of the free stuff but beyond that probably a waste of money…..just my opinion.

It is all about the $$, they sent me a single hook and one isuue of their mag, I didn’t pay $24.00 and they turned it over to a collection agency, “good luck with that”!

NAFC is in reality NOT a club, but a 3rd rate magazine that uses the promises of great give a ways as a selling point.

They also publish the Handyman, North American Hunting and Motorcycle. All are pushed at being clubs with the same promises of give aways.
