There are some other good products out there too.
Drakes, Andy’s and Sturdiwheat to name a few.

Might want to look at different recipes to that do not require frying or breading. We have cooked fillets on a stick drisseled with a little oil or salad dressing that was very good. A little barbecue sauce basted on a fillet and grilled can be very good to.

I know it can be hard to pass up a good pan fried fillet but there are options.

For Diabetic’s, try Baked fish. Here is a Perch Recipe, I’ve used with Walleye, Perch, Crappie and Pike. Very good and lots less FAT, etc.

    I say to this recipe.

Further info. Hint for Diabetic’s, lowing blood sugar (from personal experience):
Watching how much fat is in my diet seems to have more of a impact than just watching carb’s. There are good & bad Carb’s and learning how each affects your numbers is the key. They can be different for everybody and the amount of exercise made a bigger difference than just my diet.
Another misconception I’ve found for me is Diet Pop vs. Reg. Pop and how it affects your numbers. Drinking 1-Coke/Pepsi vs Diet Coke/Pepsi but limiting to 1-can and then drinking more water also made a difference.
COFFEE was another Biggie for me, my A1C dropped 1 1/2 points 5-months after I quit drinking Coffee (which I really love) and no other diet or activity changes.

In my personal exercise, just walking for 30-minutes every other day made a huge difference. Using a bike trainer has helped quite a bit too over last winter. It is not speed but length of time, just getting your heart pumping a little faster for at least 30-minutes every other day made the biggest difference.

I am now working toward other changes and getting my weight down which should also reduce or eliminate my need for medications. My planned goal is to lose at 50 lbs by January (on am well on my way) then maintain or continue thru March (Northwest Sportshow) time. If I can prove to the FW I’ve eliminated 3-medications and lost 50+ I get to buy a new Humminbird 998C or better (Calculating my saving over 2-years of co-pays). I’m excited about that deal, feel better, fewer drugs and live to fish longer.

Do some of your own research and find what works best for you and Good Luck

Thanks for all the replies. We made the crappies and did not have any problems. We actually used 10 carbs per 2 fillets for anyone that ever has to make them.

Our daughter was diagnosed back in June with type 1 diabetes. Eating, exercising, school, virtually everything is a challenge in learning how her diabetes will react to the activity. So whenever people like you reply we are very thankful for the time you took to help.

I have been a insulin dependant diabetic for almost 17 yrs now (Dec 1994), and love to eat fish. I treat myself to fried fish about once every 2 or 3 months, I will usually make them on the grill vs. frying. I have not noticed my sugar levels change much with the grilling of fish. Fried fish yes they jump, however I will just take more insulin to account for the fried fish. Best advise for a new diabetic I got when diagnosed is to keep living your life, just live your life with diabetes now. So you have to test your sugar levels, and take shots of insulin or have the pump, make the minor adjustments needed. Do not let this disease control you, its very easy to live a normal life with diabetes.

Not to sidetrack an important thread, ut I found some Sturdiwheat at Lunds. They are going to make a nice coating tonight for these.

Those are walleye cheeks I filleted out of a mess of walleye I shocked up with a car battery (approx 40). Times are tough, I make no apologies. I just hope the dog can stomach the walleye so I can eat his dog food.
