Anyone here make fireplace mantles? I just finished putting stone on it and now need to find someone that can make a very nice mantle. I was thinking of an old barn beam, but would be open to ideas. It would be about 10′ total in length. Located in Woodbury. Thanks in advance

Have you given any thought to using Limestone or Marble? Then again, what type of stone did you use?

I used stack stone. I agree, half logs look great, but it just won’t go with the theme of the rest of the room.

Another idea. I have poured some really nice exposed aggregate mantles using local stone.

    Lindy:

I got a couple of guys over here that have barn beams if you’re interested… Got some Texas cedar and a guy looking at dropping off some red cedar.

Thanks Mark. I was thinking about putting the TV over, but it would have been to high, so I just extended the wall. I think it’s much easier to watch. I just hope the kids don’t break it. I’m sending you a pm

Here is one I made from the old family barn. Not a good closeup but there’s a mortise and tenon joint, with wood pegs holding it together, and some old bolts and square nuts in the center.

Grump, that is very nice. Looks good not going all the way to the end. Gives me an idea. Thanks!
