Selling my boat….do I need to have the guy sign anything that protects me? Something that says the boat is sold as is, no warranty is given or implied?

Just a thought, not trying to be dishonest and get away with anything. However knowing the world we live in, I don’t want some guy to bring me to court over faulty something.

Print up a Bill of Sale. I just bought a boat from a guy off Craigslist- he had one printed from businessformtemplate.com. On it it states that I was buying it as is with no warranties. Hope it helps.

As with any State Licensed Vehicle, go with to the DMV/License Center office and make sure the ownership/Title gets transferred.

Not as likely to have problems with a boat, but if you ever sell a Car/Truck/etc. make sure it gets transferred at the License Center. My wife used to work at one in Chaska and heard many HORROR stories of people not doing that and relying just trusting they would. One case a woman was Arrested on a Hit & Run Warrant on a vehicle they had sold privately approx a year before. Only saving grace, was her husband came in with the Bill of Sale and Reciept from the Title. In another Case a guy got a letter stating all of his vehicle had to have WHISKEY PLATES due to the buyer getting a DUI.

    Good Luck

I think it depends if the boat is titled or not? When I bought my 15′ boat a few years back, I just made a simple bill of sale with the MN registration number, buyer and seller name and address and signatures and amount paid. The DMV was fine with letting me register it with this. This boat was not titled though, so your experience may vary.
