Now that Iran has released all 3 American hikers do you think they were hiking? Iran thought they were spies. All the photo’s I saw where they were grabbed makes me think they weren’t only hiking. I mean that’s the worst rocky ground I’ve seen in a long time.

So, what do you think………spies or hikers?

You’ll never see me “hiking” in Iran, or anywhere in the middle east.

I think a guy would have to be crazy to go on a hiking retreat in Iran.

They are so worn out from being in jail, I hear they are going on a hiking vacation along the North and South Korea border.

If I knew it was close to Afghanistan, Pakistan of Turkey I’d bet they were hikers, hiking the trails that weed smokers go too, to find thier weed. Heard some stories in the past about quite a few people that go there for that reason and also hike the trails of those other countries. Probably hiking the trails the smugglers and growers have used for centuries shipping and selling thier goods. I don’t think they were spies.

I think they were/are just three “Earthy” morons that decided to hike in the Middle East. I could think of about a million other places I would go before there for hike. Bunch of idiots and I have little to no sympathy for them.

I gotta run now, I’m going for a walk in NE Minneapolis!

Spies, who in there right mind would be hiking in an area that the state dept had warned Americans not to travel in.

If they were not spies then IMHO they were very stupid.

Possibly like many younger kids, brought up to believe they can do whatever they want to do and that there are No Consequences for any Wrong doing they commit.

This is just what our Liberal (IMO) Public School System is teaching our kids they are willing to believe what some teachers preach.

Example: My youngest step-son who could consistently come home with A’s on his report card, Early in his Junior Year he came home with a “D” on his 1st Qtr. Report card.

Needless to say my wife blew a gasket when she saw it at approx. 5:30pm when she got home; she continued simmering near the boiling point until Matt came home after work around 8:30pm. Fireworks went off and many words were said until she calmed down to listen to his side.

Matt claimed that he had the one project done that affected his grade and he just never turned it and he still had time to turn the project in. Wife was still steaming, but agreed to lay off as long as Matt had the teacher call her and confirm this the next day.

The next afternoon the teacher called and confirmed that “Yes, Matt’s grade would change and that he turned the project in that day”, Wife asked how can this happen and be allowed?, the grades were posted.

Teacher said that is School Policy, they have to revise grades even after the grades are posted and they were into the next quarter. Wife said your teaching the kids to Fail, thanked the teacher for calling and let it go.

2-weeks later we got a new Report Card and his grade went from the “D” to a “B” including a note from the Teacher said if it had been on time, he would have had an “A+”.

Pretty sad, but I am sure these Spies/Stupid kids had similar school backgrounds. No consequences for their actions.

Matt learned his lesson the hard way 3-years ago when he was FIRED from a nice job because he did not follow the Store Managers orders for tasks on 3-seperatre occasions. Matt’s reasoning is that the Warehouse Manager is my boss, the Store Manager can’t tell me what to do.

Well I can now say he learned his lesson and has held another good job for over 1-1/2 years.

I doubt these free spirited stupid spies have learned a lesson be bailed out by someone else.

I have some friends who have hiked over there and they tell me there is no way in hell these 3 just “wandered across the border”. He said it’s impossible to not know where you were. Not to mention you just don’t go hiking in that nasty part of the country where they say they were.

Unless they are three of the dumbest people on the earth.

Stupid, either way. What adventure could possibly be there? They found out in an Iran prison. I personally think they had no business there…my 2 cents. and who paid their “ransom” bail? hopefully not us taxpayers…

I don’t remember for certain, but it seems to me that they all met each other at Berkely,…Or at least another U of California school.

    I figured that explained everything.

In my opinion they should have their passports revoked….they obviously do not have the brain power to handle the responsibility. I agree with the other poster that they were brought up thinking that “I can do anything mentality”. I do not understand why they are recieving a heros homecoming. It reminds me a lot of Mr Timothy Treadwell…the guy who lived with the bears in Alaska. What do you think is going to happen when you put yourself in a dangerous environemnt. You may get away with it for a while, but when $h1t hits the fan you are stuck in an Iranian prison or end up in bear crap.

I am glad that they were able to come home….but it still makes me shake my head

Anyone else wonder how the Iranians caught these hippies wandering around along their border but we have people constantly crossing our borders without a problem?

Probably because there, they are moving less than a mile an hour on foot, in the mountains… they can’t hardly pack a semi and drive on through with 1000’s of others at the same time…

Whether they were spies or not, I think Carroll58 has hit it smack on the head with the above statement. With all of the warning about unrest in that area when it comes to American’s, the only way any of these dolts should have been there was in a uniform, carrying a gun and on the RIGHT side of the border. I say send them back…maybe to Afghanisitan…in a uniform and carrying a gun for as many days as they were in that prison.

This comment really strikes a cord too…. Anyone else wonder how the Iranians caught these hippies wandering around along their border but we have people constantly crossing our borders without a problem?….if we really wanted secure borders in this country we could have them.

Can you really compare our border and security struggles with Mexico or Canada for that matter, to the border these “hikers” were infringing ? If you rationally can, then indeed, the school system has failed.

Like I said in response to someone labeling this a mistake. These idiots could have put our nation in peril had Iran executed them for being spies. They are lucky they got off with just 2 years.
