My wife and I are going to spend two days at the red door the beginning of the week. Havn’t fished there much and any hints or tips would be appreciated. Going to have my musky rod along even though she now has me down two zip. Would’nt mind seeing some small mouth either. Anything that pulls back works for me. Thanks

We look forward to meeting you! Thanks for choosing The Red Door!

Looks like the wind might make things bumpy on the lake early in the week. Maybe the wrong forecast? Those conditions should make the rocky areas and humps within a half mile to the west of the harbor good places to catch walleyes, smallies and perch. Trolling shadraps in 6 to 12 ft. will get action as well as slip-bobber rigs baited with crawlers, leeches and minnows, all on a very small jig under the bobber.

Trolling lead core and small shadraps has been good some days in 25 to 30ft. of water to the east in the flat basin areas.

Although boat control might be tough if the winds are up, muskie action on the sand to east, in 3 to 6 ft. of water has been good on some recent days.

    See you soon!

Starting at the red door harbor and heading north is an awesome area for picking up large smallmouth and northers/skies… I recommend drift fishing and casting shad raps and swim jigs over the rocks. As you make a few passes keep paying attention to you graph and you’ll start to find weed beds to come back and hit later.

You could also set up you muskie rod with a bobber and drift sucker minnows while drifting… Using smaller suckers and you should end up with 20+ smallies and northerns.
