I’ve been fishing on the mississippi by wabasha and been seening smallies hitting the top. I’ve pitched everything from buzz bait,spinnerbait,sallow-deep running crank baits,small-large jerk baits, poppers, swim jig with twister tails and I can’t catch one. I know there bass I can see them right next to the boat. If anyone has a idea would be helpful

    thanks

Any brand Bone colored Popping bait – fished fast and agressive – worked last week on Pool 2

3-4 inch Gulp fluke, hooked through the nose with a larger circle hook…

    flick, flick, pause (repeat)

    I shouldn’t have mentioned that

or go with a holographic or shad colored Sammy

A nice size bullhead or sucker. The smallies aren’t feeding, they are trying to get away from the apex predator in the river…THE FLATHEAD.

Either 6″ to 8″ minnows on jigs or top water frogs are getting smallies to go up here on the upper miss.

My mentality with smallies is if you can see them they can see you. YOu need to stop at least 100yards from your spot. THen troll up slow with long casts. That should help a lot. Try flippin tubes with a very light weight.
