Heading to Rainy soon and am planning on getting a digital map, didn’t know if a guy should go with lakemaster or navionics, anyone know much about these? What’s the deal with lakemster being bought out and suspending the online sales of the lowrance/garmin products? Thank for any advice.

Here is why Lowrance products may be unavailable:

Racine, Wisconsin, July 11, 2011….Johnson Outdoors Marine Electronics, Inc. today announced it has acquired the assets of Waypoint Technologies, maker of LakeMaster,® the premier brand of high definition electronic lake charts among Northern US anglers. The asset purchase includes Pro Map Technologies, the LakeMaster® proprietary inland water survey techniques and bathymetric data processing technology, providing future exclusivity of an expanded portfolio of LakeMaster® digital maps for Humminbird® fishfinders.

We run the latest Lakemaster Rainy Lake chip in our guide boat, but I assure you both Navionics and Lakemaster have their selling points. There are pieces of structure on the Navionics chip that are void from the Lakemaster chip and also the other way around. Regardless of which one is better either chip will give you a great starting point in both protecting your lower unit and finding structure. Back channels and back bays……You travel at your own risk in many areas.

If its a toss up, I’ll take the Lakemaster over the Navionics. Biggest reason is LM is plug and play. The Navionics needs to be loaded from the menu.
