Gophers open at USC on Saturaday. I’m pretty sure they will give up 35 points with a real shot this game could get ugly.(60 or more)

So the question becomes………..can the Gophers score 21 against USC? I see no chance of them winning but I’m wondering if they will show improvement over that mess Brewster put out there.

    Opinions??

My guess.. 66-10. And the only TD that the GOOFs score will be late against the USC practice squad

Just happy I wont actually have to be at the game with my wife. I think they score 21, But everything after 14 will come agains the B maybe even C squad.

Thank you Brewster. Just 3 more years left of his pre conference BS.

Agreed that it is hard to play national powers. But if you want to contend in the Big 10 you better be able to step up. Pre-season against the South Dakota’s of the world really does nothing but embarrass the program if they lose. Pre-season schedule isn’t the Gophers problem. Its Brewster couldn’t find any top flight players. He also couldn’t keep football coaches here once they found out what a fraud he was.

They have a beautiful new stadium. To bad they won’t sell out unless the Wisconsin’s & Nebraska’s come to town.

Agreed to an extent. If Brewster would have put together a team that over the course of say 3 years showed improvement and actually started competing, Then YEAH go for it Instead he thought he could play these teams when he had a team/coaching skills of a DII maybe even DIII at times. So in 5 years from now if we start getting there go for it. However Mason managed to put together some decent teams with nice easy games in the beginning, only to lose on bad coaching when the games really mattered. ( the only thing the Prevent D ever did for him was prevent us from beating WI, MI, MI St.)

I haven’t done much research on college football yet, but is USC any good or are we thinking of the USC of recent memory (Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez?) Pre Pete Carroll, this program was nothing special for many years.
They’ve got their own issues but I still see them winning. But in MN’s first year of a new coach, I can’t make any predictions.

Would be unfair to compare Kill’s 1st team with Brewsters last. All indications point to Kill actually knowing how to coach a football team and I’m glad he’s not making soundbites on TV as though they’ll be in the Rose Bowl in 3 years.

All scheduling the small teams does is get you wins. Wins gets you into bowl games where the true talent of the teams show. Thats what Mason did. He got to his 7 wins and got beat in the bowl games. Are the fans so naive that we can’t see a bad team in the Big 10 beating up on small college teams?

I want to see the Gophers compete with Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State in the Big 10. I don’t care if they go to a bowl game unless it’s one of the Big ones. Heck, there are 50+ bowl games. How bad do you have to be not to make a bowl game????

    You Have to be BAD!

Your right it does get you W’s but W’s are alot of things. They get you Bowl games which get you $$$ to do things like a stadium or keep up to date facilities to HELP with recruits. Winning Bowl Games Gets you even more, and Brings in even more recruits, and Once you have consistently done that, Go for bigger teams.

I never said THe Gophers were a GREAT team in the Big 10. In fact they are a joke. But When Mason wasn’t buys out coaching himself, he was getting the most out of the guys he had. IF he pulls off one more win in each of (what was it 3 consecutive seasons?) It could have been a different story here in MN. One more win gets you maybe that ONE more recruit.. 3 years in a row…..

Brewster thought he was a big dog, and wanted to play the big dogs before he ever called a play. He wanted to skip the building part. He went from Small teams to THE teams. Seems like there was room to grow in there that was skipped thats all. You can’t go to a Jan. Bowl with out doing the little ones 1st Just never going to happen.

I saw an ESPN analyst yesterday predict a Gophers upset. I should have copied the link.

So my wife was at the game, and saw the greatest shirt Ever. USC? BFD!

That was a good game and knocked em out of the top 25. Kill actually made adjustments at half time. Hang on guys this could actually get entertaining.
