Door County Fishing

My bride and I will be spending Labor Day week in Door County. Considering a charter but am curious if there is good fishing for walleye, smallmouth, or northerns close to shore on either side of the peninsula. Toying with the idea of dragging the boat with us. I’ve fished out of Kewaunee, Two Rivers, etc. for salmon with my boat, but don’t want to do the 4:00 am routine this trip or out that far.

    Thanks

    Pete

Smallie fishing this year has been outstanding. There are a lot of good structure spots within a couple minutes of many boat launches.

If you’re going north of Sturgeon bay, I would suggest putting in @ Sister bay harbor andrun to “Sister Islands”(sp?). It’s prolly less than a mile out of the harbor, and the smallie fishing can be incredible! Also a good walleye bite evenings. Shallow rocks Good Luck.

    Check your PM

These fish were caught with-in 1-2 miles of each other and with-in 3 miles from shore the last week of Aug 2010. Same rods, just switching out Dipseys after the morning Salmon bite and switching over to crawler harnesses.

You guys are killing me – wife and I are going to Door Co middle of Sept. We are NOT taking the boat as this is our first time and I promised her we would just see the sights and “scout” for future fishing chances. I saw the post about smallies and just about wet myself

Well, in my humble opinion, the best sights are all out in the boat

Tell your wife she will see all of door cty art, orchard, nick nack sites in a half day. It would take half a summer to see all the sites available buy boat, their are that many incredible sites to see from the water!

Here is one of my favorites! (P.S. There are both Smallies and Salmon with-in casting distance of each other in this particular location! )

I think there a lot of us that know that spot. Cave is pretty cool, and the 20+fow if front of there is know to have a lot of smallies that like spinner baits burned on the surface
