    Denny, he meant 3.5L.

    EcoBoost V6

The first engine in the EcoBoost series is the V6. The engine first appeared in the 2007 Lincoln MKR Concept under the name TwinForce. The engine was designed to deliver power and torque output equivalent to a typical 6.0 L or larger displacement V8 while achieving at least 15% better fuel efficiency and reduced greenhouse emissions compared to the V8 engine. In the MKR the concept TwinForce engine was rated 415 hp (309 kW) and 400 lb·ft (542 N·m) of torque, as well as run on E85 fuel. When the same prototype engine reappeared in the Lincoln MKT concept in 2008 North American International Auto Show, the name was changed to EcoBoost. Official EcoBoost production began on May 19, 2009 at Ford’s Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1.

The production engines use the Duratec 35 V6 engine block. The fuel charging and delivery systems can attain high fuel pressures of up to 2150 PSI, necessary for efficient operation of the direct fuel injection system. It uses 2 Garrett GT15 turbochargers which can spin at up to 170,000 rpm and provide 12 PSI of boost. The engine can consume up to 25% more air over the naturally-aspirated counterpart. Through the use of direct injection, the engine needs only regular-grade gasoline to run, though premium fuel is recommended. The EcoBoost V6 was first available as an engine option for 2010 Lincoln MKS, followed by 2010 Ford Flex, 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, and 2010 Lincoln MKT.

The fuel charging and delivery systems were co-developed with Robert Bosch GmbH.

Ford also built an experimental 3.5 L GTDI EcoBoost engine modified with E85 direct injection and gasoline port fuel injection, which achieved a BMEP score of 305 psi (27 bar), which translates to approximately 553 pound-feet (750 N·m) of torque and 316 horsepower (236 kW)@3000rpm (flat torque curve from 1500-3000rpm).

Thanks for the info Tony. I’m curious, did you ever do a cost/gain comparison to see how long it will take you to pay off the upgrades?

    * I ask for Denny and others who may be interested. Never say never, but I don’t ever see a diesel in my future. Ford gasser will most likely be my next rig.

But, you are paying more for the upfront diesel engine cost, more for diesel fuel, same if not more for maintenance, PLUS you are dumping $3000 in mods into it.

Assuming starting at 0 miles (gasser vs. diesel). I wonder at what point the extra costs would be paid back. I ask as someone who doesn’t need a diesel.

vrey true it also depends on how long you keep them and they cost way more for repairs fuel filter and oil ect they are definatly not for every one. especily if they are not stock. I put lots of miles on mine and keep them long time my last one was over 300k mi that helps off set the cost of mods and diesel ect.

they are also fun to drive when you get in that 600-700 rwhp range

By the same token, you also can fish out of a $2000 boat and catch as many fish as a guy in a $50,000 boat, with $10,000 in electronics. How many fish does one guy have to catch, to justify his purchase to the other ??? Why would he have to ?

I dont doubt these numbers. I listed my truck but we also have an 02 dmax that owned since new with efi live tuning, intake and exhaust. Empty the truck will get 21-23+ towing the WX2100 its around 16-18. I cant forget to mention that you hardly know its there! And if you wanna have fun flip the switch and throw down a 13.5 in the 1/4 mile. Sure is fun watching the look on the sports car drivers face

One thing though about the diesel is that they hold their value a lot more then a 1/2 ton gaser. Heck some of these guys are getting 1/2 tons with a sticker of 47-52K. If I was gonna spend that much I would hands down buy a diesel, whether I needed it or not.

All good points. I overpaid for a toy (boat) cause I guess I saw the value in it and I really wanted it.

However I’ll tear a truck apart by the numbers to be sure I’m getting the best bang all around for my buck cause it’s just a tool (to me). I’ve never been a car/truck guy. I keep forgetting a truck might be a toy to others.

Oh and I checked out the EcoBoost videos. Interesting. I’ll be curious to hear real life experiences.

What is the year of your vehicle? 2004 Chevy Silverado

1/2 Ton or 3/4 Ton truck? 1/2 ton

What liter size motor do you have? 5.3

    Diesel or Gas? Gas

What rear end gear ratio (if known)? 3.73

    Miles per gallon fuel consumption:

mpg Highway? 20 if I’m doing under 70

    mpg Intown? 14-15

mpg Pulling a trailer and an approx total gross trailer weight? 13 avg pulling a 16ft boat

How well does it pull your trailer? I know it’s there but not bad.

All this has improved since getting a tune done by Blackbear via EFI Live.

I have driven every new Dodge since 2002…. out of them, the best for pulling, hauling, mileage & resale is the older Diesels, with the 5.9L. They would get an honest 21MPG cruising, 18 in the city and towing a boat. Right now I am driving a 2011 RAM 1500. 5.7 Gas, gets an average of 16 mpg, I don’t bother checking hwy/cty, but I hear they get 19-20 hwy and 14-16 city. I will say, in the new RAMS, getting rid of the leaf springs in the rear, makes em ride awfully nice Have fun shopping Denny

What is the year of your vehicle? 07 F-150 super crew 5.5’bx

    1/2 Ton or 3/4 Ton truck? 1/2 4×4

What liter size motor do you have? 5.4 L

    Diesel or Gas? gasser

What rear end gear ratio (if known)? think 3.55 20″wheels

    Miles per gallon fuel consumption:
    mpg Highway? 17mpg
    mpg Intown? 12.8 mpg
    mpg Pulling a trailer. 13.5 – 14.4
approx total gross trailer weight? 21′ MSX Javelin tandem trailer ? 3.5 – 4K pounds
How well does it pull your trailer? Surprisingly pretty darn well. Less shift if I lock out the OD in hilly country. Open road towing leave the OD on…then I get the 14.4

What is the year of your vehicle? 1995 Chevy Silverado Z71

1/2 Ton or 3/4 Ton truck? 1/2 Ton

What liter size motor do you have? 5.7L 350 V8 Last year Chevy built this motor before the vortec came out it is a great motor for me and has been trouble free. My mechanic tells me this is an awesome motor and to hold on to the truck as long as I can, take care of it (change oil on a regular basis) and there is no reason I should not be able to get 300,000 miles out of it, I have 158,000 on it now.

    Diesel or Gas? Gas

What rear end gear ratio (if known)? I have no idea but I bet trumar knows the answer to that.

Miles per gallon fuel consumption: I did not buy it for the gas mileage I do not keep track, for the most part I only use the truck when I need to haul or tow something.

How well does it pull your trailer? My boat trailer I hardly even know it is back there. My 24′ camper I do know it is back there but it still does a good job pulling it.

    1/2 Ton or 3/4 Ton truck? 3/4

What liter size motor do you have? 460cc

    Diesel or Gas? gas

What rear end gear ratio (if known)?

    Miles per gallon fuel consumption:

    mpg Highway? 12

    mpg Intown?10

mpg Pulling a trailer and an approx total gross trailer weight? 16 ft boat 12 highway

How well does it pull your trailer?

The only reason we bought a 2nd car from Corey is because he does fish for cats…at least once in a while. Well, that and he doesn’t have one of those “sparkly” boats.
