Any backyard boat motor mechanics on the forum? My motor stopped running and I think its electrical. It just won’t fire. Was running fine then started starting hard and wouldn’t idle now nothing.I’m pretty mechanically inclined and have some pretty spendy meters for work but from what I’ve read I need a VDA meter or adapter to test the electrical. Any thoughts or pointers would be great.

    Thanks
    Chad

I would not rule out fuel system from your description of issues you had.

Have you checked for spark on all cylinders?

i’ve heard that same story many, many times from the Force line. i would probably buy a new or used motor.. i’m sure there are force motors that are still running but that whole thing was a terrible experiment.

Chad my boat guy told me that he has rebuilt more carbs in the the last 5 years than all of the last 30 years he’s been in business because of the bad gas we get. He told me to always dump some seafoam in at fill up time it works great. Your situation sounds the same that happend to me I may have gotton lucky but the seaform got it running again. Try it, your not out much if it does’nt do the trick . Good Luck

It’s getting gas, the fuel pump is pumping, I pulled the carb off , removed the bowl and it is spotless, cleaned it up and put it back on. I have spark but I don’t think it’s good enough or it’s eradic. I Put new plugs in. I sprayed a shot of starting fluid just to try and get it to fire but it won’t thats what leads me to think there”s not enough spark. The only thing I did different before it stopped running is mixed 2 different types of 2 cycle oil together but I don”t see why that would matter.

If you did not remove the jets (all of them) spray them out and reinsert (to the correct setting) then you WILL still have potential carb issues.

Smart money is betting on carbs still. If you were near Isle I’d do it for ya.
Drop a good ounce or better of fuel into the barrel of each carb and ill bet it fires, which fould mean lack of fuel. Ether just does not work the same. -Mark
