Need a TV for the new sun room. Can’t decide between the LCD or LED. What about the ones with the built in DVDs???

No opinion on LCD or LED, but we did buy the oldest boy a Vizio 42″ with the built in DVD last year before he went to college. Made it through the freshman year just fine. It is really nice to be able to pop the disk in and not have another “unit” along with another remote.

Stay away from that built in DVD. If it goes bad you will have to send in the hole TV and could cost you some $$. Samsung is the best TV out there and the D630 LCD’s are on one heak of a deal right now as LCD fade out to LED. I think I saw a 46″ for $799.

LED’s have an awesome picture, but a very reflective glass or plexiglass coating. You said you are going to put it in your sun room so watching during the daylight may be annoying based on the direction the light comes in. I have no issues watching my LED with overhead lighting. Basic rule of thumb is that LED’s look better in darker rooms and LCD’s look better in brighter rooms, similar to the old LCD/Plasma debate. That being said, I would have a hard time trading my LED for most of the LCD’s I have seen. I also stay away from combined components.

LED. Better picture more energy efficient, longer life. LCD however good as well, will start to get to your eyes. Just as staring at a computer screen will after a while. Also LED tends to have better blacks. Which gives you better contrast. and you would be surprised how often you really watch ALOT of black on you screen. think of those good movies where they are going through a dimly lit room, and you wonder who’s going to shoot 1st. poor blacks can make that just look muddy.

As far as bilt in DVD player, I wouldn’t but thats me. Convenient? Sure, but when and if it goes out do you want to send your tv in for repair, or just buy another TV?

I’m currently looking for a new TV myself. Who knew finding a TV that was well JUST a TV would be so hard? they are all either 3D, “Smart” or have Dvd players built in.

I would say LCD because of the glare. I have an LCD in a bright room and there is very little glare from the screen. Samsung, Sony, even some LG’s have very nice pictures. You will be able to find a better quality tv without a DVD player

My first was a LG Plasma and when that took a crap, I went to a 40″ LCD. Great for the living room. This TV will be a 32″. Very bright in the sun room so maybe the LCD would be better. Then again, we watch it mostly at night. Thanks.
