We just got back from 12 days on Rainy and Gullrock. The motor kicked my buddies 18 1/2 Alumacraft up on plane easily and we ran about 25-27 mph at 4000 rpm after throttling back. The thing gets outstanding fuel economy in that range. It does gulp the gas at full throttle as the owner wanted to “get the cobs out” every few days.
The only issue I’ve seen (once) in 4 years of trips (about 40 days) is the shift lever got cranky about being exactly in neutral to be able to run the starter. The resort owner suggested we try moving it in and out of gear to neutral and after about 20 tries it saved a trip to the nearest motor repair shop.
