I am a web developer and I need websites that inspire me sometimes. Although going back to the same one, about fishing none the less, over and over? Not only that, but I don’t know PHP.

I have not. In fact I’ve never heard of it. I looked it up. Very interesting. I’ll have to get one done.

    Wade,
I’d like to thank you for starting this thread. After reading some of today’s posts in this thread and doing some thinking this morning I realized how I have lost track of some of the finer things in life that I take for granted like having a boat, fishing gear, food on the table everynight and the list goes on and on. Also I realized that I put my pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else regardless if they are a millionaire or a homeless person on the street thus making me no better than anyone. There are a lot of people out there that are less fortunate than the most of us, not everyone’s parents can afford to put thier kids through college so they can get the great jobs and look down upon the less fortunate.

Anyways getting back on track here, this thread has inspired me to head on down to the local food shelf or soup kitchen tonight after work, though I don’t make a bunch of money, I am going to donate enough to get 2 families a few meals worth of groceries. I also have a couple of side jobs going on the next few weekends so hopefully I can find a couple of those guys with will work for food signs, and put them to work for some food over the course of the next few weekends.

I was once out of work and did what I needed to get by, but I worked myself out of that slump and I hope that my donations go to people that are in a slump but working thier way out.

Thank you for the wake up call Wade

Very inspiring words. Well said. I notice that I need to be brought back down to earth from time to time myself. Managing people all day long and seeing so much of the lazy, slobish, incompetent in people out there along with the news showing negative things really gives a person a skewed view of the world. It takes effort to see the good and productive as well.

All I have to do is jump straight into my pants with both legs, and I’m better than everyone? I can’t just say so on the internet?

I thought this was kind of interesting. I was told this story second hand, so I’m sure I don’t have all the facts. But I think the over all picture is clear enough.

A local guy near here recently lost his wife to cancer. Three very young kids left behind. They had made the decision to have her (mother) to be a stay home mom, and sacrifice having the extra income for the sake of how they wanted to raise their kids. Apparently, her battle with cancer was a very long duration, and she often had major problems with the radiation and chemical cocktails. With no other family members available to help them out, he had to miss work frequently. His employer at the time was very understanding, and let him work various hours to help out with the homelife.
The company was sold, and the new owners had a zero tolerance for his variable work schedule. He took his un paid weeks of time as covered by the Family leave act. Following his loss of time, he was let go. He found another job quickly, but it paid less and they were willing to work with him on his situation with his wife. I can only imagine how he felt his and his families lives were spirally out of control. They exceeded their maximum medical benefits, and he made too much for public assistance. With huge amounts of medicals costs, hospice care, funeral,…..he was laid off from his job. Unemployment doesn’t cut it to keep those types of bills paid. He tried to restructure his debt and filed a bankruptcy (which chapter…I don’t know) But he recently tried to refinance his house to reduce the monthly payment and was ineligible. He’s considered self-employed because he takes on any and every project he can to make more than what Unemployment would have been.
My finish carpenter that I use ran an ad for hiring one guy… and this guy was one applicant of over 500 resumes he received. This guy is making more in “side-jobs” than what Corey could pay him, so it didn’t work out. But sad to see how a guy could be put through hell, try so hard, and not get back on his feet, so to speak. I know of this from another source, so I know its legit. But here is a guy that wants refi his house, or sell it and down grade, but can’t…and its now just a matter of time before he possibly looses it.

I respect this guy for going out and doing what ever it takes to keep bills paid, and his kids cared for. Not the cry baby you see on TV!!!!! But I’m sure he is one of thousands that has a legit sob story that you feel for. 15 years ago, I’m sure he felt confident in his job as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker. I assume he did quality work, and would be a desirable employee. But when he is one of 500 or more, its just flinging darts. I’ve been there with the interview process, and know what its like to be 1 of 900 candidates. The worst feeling in the world after the third and fourth interview is to be #2 of 900 It sucks and really does leave you depressed.

But Wade, the people you see crying on TV, are the typical people that are dependent upon the Gov’t and have no interest in helping themselves. There is a distinct difference in those that cry ABOUT help, and those that ASK for help.
I chose not to finish college. Financially, it didn’t make sense for my area, or career path. When you make more than the “average” college grad in construction, how long would it take to make up over a hundred grand? It would take an entire career. Would things be different today??? Possible… But I’m an example of being over qualified in my field. I met with or talked to over 200 builders when I lost my job. It was the same-old story each time. “Christ, Randy I would love to bring you on, but I’m not even drawing a salary out of my company right now” or “Randy, geez, I don’t know what to say. You wouldn’t be happy drafting with all your experience…” Or “Randy, I’m not going to insult you, I can’t pay you anywhere near what your worth” Or my favorite “Randy, hell, you know more about building than I do…You’ld take over my company”
I know I’m an exception when it comes to motivation and drive. All the physco tests have come back the same – I’m a type A that demands perfection and detail. That’s about 1/12th of the scales, so there is about 11/12ths that don’t work like me.

BTW – Jesse very admirable gesture!

Really???? So people with opinions bother you? After all, that’s what his “opinions” are, just opinions.

Fortunately you are employed and will never need to know if you could hack working for somebody like Wade.

I spent a dozen years working for a “Type A” and while it was trying at times I don’t regret it a bit. In fact I wish I was more of a type A myself.

Have a safe and great weekend everybody!!!!!

Arrogance or confidence? I can assure you, I spent the last 12 years killing myself to be one of the most competent and knowledgeable people in my field. Regardless of it being arrogance or confidence……I’ve put in the time and effort to acquire the knowledge and skill that I can afford to be confident…..or possibly even arrogant.

Myself and my boss don’t ask anyone to provide anything above and beyond what we expect a well paid professional to provide. However when those professionals fail to do so after being shown the correct way multiple times, educational literature and multiple examples. I’m sure a bit of arrogance and impatience do come out.

We pay top dollar and we expect 100% for that top dollar.

I’m sure anyone who is a manager can appreciate what I’m saying here. My uncle always told me don’t get into management. I should have listened.

FWIW, my boss holds me in the highest regard and rewards me accordingly with salary and respect. That’s really all that matters is what the man who signs my checks thinks of me.

How did a post about about an article regarding people complaining about no work and another article regarding lack of competent people to fill positions turn into this?

Hey Wade! Just out of curiosity how much more training does an advanced clinical sonographer have versus an ultrasound tech? I know a couple of people who have gone done this route (one started as an x-ray tech) and appear to really like their decision to do so. Thanks!

If they are an ultrasound tech…….to become an advanced clinical sonographer they’ll need to cross train into Echocardiography (accredited Echocardiography program). After gaining approximately 5 years experience in Echo and Stress Echo (preferably 10 years) the can then apply for the Advanced Clincal Sonography (ACS) program. Currently we are requiring approx 2 years of supervised ACS work before we’ll send them out on their own.

Ultrasound Sonographer, Echocardiographer and Advanced Clincal Sonographer are all awesome professions. I’m lucky to have found them when I was in college.
