ahhh…Spider Lake, many great memories, but a long time ago. What resort? My old classmate/neighbor runs Spider Lake Resort, good ol Dean. I remember the crappies small baited jig under a slip bobber about 3-4 feet down. No help here with the muskies, but the pike were almost in every bay. Good luck.

If I remember correctly, the Crappies and Walleyes bit pretty well around the island just out from the public boat launch…..

    Welcome to IDO…

I have fished Spider for a number of years as we have a cabin on a small lake nearby. Its a great muskie lake, however, just like any lake they seem to avoid my lures. I would say typical mid summer patterns would hold true for spider as well. Cabbage weedlines come to mind, possible deep rock humps/shelf, or long points extending into deeper water. If you have some time, might be worth while to buzz around the some of main basin to look for pods of bait fish. I would imagine the ski’s are hanging around with the cisco or tulipee in the lake. Crappies I have no idea where to start, but I would imagine suspended over deeper water as well. Enjoy the trip to spider lake, truly a pristine god’s country area, report back on your adventure.

The muskies are all over and you’ll find them right where you’d think they would be looking at a map or the shoreline once you’re on the lake; points, islands etc. Once you cover all of the obvious stuff just start running shorelines near the deeper water in the lake and you should be well occupied.

Great advice! Thanks. We are staying at spider lake resort. Dean is a great guy. some of my family have been going up there for many years. I have heard the crappies are biting again and have seen some pictures of some really big muskies. I have also seen pictures of nice walleyes caught up there. I think it should be a fun time. I will report back hopefully with some awesome pictures of some big fish. Thanks again everyone!!

We were just at Spider Lake a few weeks ago. Unfortunatly, I don’t really have a much of fishing report because it was a FULL-TIME JOB battling the biting flies. I read something on IDO not too long ago about some product that is suppossed to work really well for them. I don’t remember the name of it but I do remember that you have to spray it on your clothing, boat carpet, etc. because you can’t apply it directly to your skin. Not sure if the biting flies are still bad up there but you WILL want to be prepared for them if they are. Have fun and good luck fishing!
