That’s a bummer. You’d think with the approaching storms they would have been on fire.

I was out Sunday morning on my favorite East Metro Bass lake. I caught 4 average sized fish in a 15 minute period of time, and then that was it. As usual I was throwing top water flies. I talked to one of the regulars who was jigging in deeper water and they never had a hit. So yea, I’d agree that it’s been slow.

August 17, 2011 at 10:48 am #988937Must be that summer window where things just seem to shut down, much like what happened to me when I went up north. Too much forage? Forage spread out too much? Just something in the air that makes them lethargic and “shut down”?
August 17, 2011 at 11:14 am #988944Fished a west metro lake Saturday morning for bass with a buddy from 7-11:30am. I talked to a guy at the gas station before we hit the water and he said all he had heard was fishing was slooooow. We started out fishing jigs & jig worms and it was slow for a little while, we caught 4 or 5. Then we switched gears to buzz baits and frogs and it really picked up. I’d guess in the next couple hours we caught pretty close to 30. Nothing big though. most were 14-16″. We did have a couple just under 18″. Sure beat sleeping in. It was a great morning!
August 17, 2011 at 11:21 am #988945I was on tonka Monday night fishing for muskies on a deep rock saddle throwing a big medusa. I got jacked by what I thought was a good ski but when I got it to the boat my nice ski turned out to be a 22.25″ lmb
I’ve been getting 1 or 2 bass a week most of the year Muskie fishing and they’re all 20 plus inches.

That is a very nice Bass!
I think living is easy for them right now. Lots of forage, lots of cover, etc. They don’t have to spend a lot of time hunting. I’m catching fish but it all happens in a short window and then it’s over with.

Rootski,
I was out there Sunday morning too. Wish we could have hooked up. I go there enough so someday we will get aquainted. My friend and I caught 8-10 total in 12-16 ft. of water, biggest was just under 17″. A little slow as we usually catch close to 20, with at least 1 20″er. Water is starting to turn green from alge, so maybe the warm water is making them less active?August 17, 2011 at 4:40 pm #989045Hey Hookem, sorry I missed you guys! Look for an old beat up red Lund tiller boat with a Merc on the back. I’m the ugly guy with the green hat
Hope to see you out there!
August 17, 2011 at 5:47 pm #989061Yea Minnetonka is prime for bass fishing this time of year. They hide in the millfoil and if you know your spots you can catch 4lbers all day.
Idk what you guys are talkin about this bein a slow year thoguh? This has been one of my best years! The shallow bite is way out of whack but that is because of the higher water. The baitfish can all come up shallow and bass dont have to chase frogs or anything we throw up there. They have plenty of cover.
I have done well all year in deep water. Just find some rocks or a weedline and they are there.
If you guys are having trouble with a lake that you hammered on last year so am I but I have found plenty of other lakes that are on fire this year with the high water.
