My wife and I are throwing an Oktoberfest party this Fall. Other than Paulaner who makes a nice seasonal beverage. Thanks for the help.

In the fall, choose Schells (they definitely brew a better Octoberfest than Leinies)

I’d give Leinekugels the edge in the springtime (for a better bock than Schells)

May I suggest Staghorn? This is one of my favorite beer styles.

One of my buddy’s fav beers is Sam Adams Oktoberfest, and it is mighty tasty. But I strongly recommend that you try Shiner’s Oktoberfest beer. I’ll take it any day over Sammy’s.

But of course, hands down, there is none better than Paulaner’s. No doubt at all.

Glad to hear there are a lot of folks on board with the Paulaner That stuff is just plain good. I also like Leinie’s, and that is saying a lot because I don’t like much that comes out of that brewery.

Spaten makes a good one. There’s another one I had last year that I just cannot remember right now (likely because I drank way too many of them). If it comes to me, I will add it to the list

All have been said that I would recommend. I might add that in Germany, Spaten Oktoberfest is the official Marzen they drink. Prost!

When I think of Octoberfest I think of Hacker-Pschorr and Spaten. Probably because that’s what the Gasthaus in Stillwater always serves at there Octoberfest celebration. However I now drink those two brands all year. Superb beers.

I’ve tasted each brew mentioned thus far and would say each response here is good info.
    HOWEVER, in my mind …
The brand which symbolizes Octoberfest is HofBrau from the HofBrauHus in Munich. They do bottle it; might be a challenge to find it locally though.

my thumb goes to Schell’s, not a fan of Summit or Sam Adams.
was in Pittsburg 3 weeks ago and brought home a bunch of brews made out that way, so far I would have to give my favorite to Duquesne, followed by Walt Witt unfiltered Belgian, made by Pennsylvania Brewing. Man, you’d think that all I think about is drinking beer…I guess your right.

Somethin else I just thought of: I know this is a bit off topic, a little bit, but you guys are SOOOO lucky to be near the New Glarus brewery! (some of you, anways)

I was told that the people running that will NOT allow their stuff to be sold outside of Wisconsin. They knew a guy bought some and had it up for resale elsewhere and went crazy on him (don’t remember exactly what measures were taken, but they were not minor). They have a cherry brew that is absolutely to die for. Definitely on my list next time I make it up north.

It isn’t that New Glarus doesn’t want to sell it out of state, I believe it has something to do with the distribution laws.
