Thank you General Motors for taking a 20 minute job and turning it into a 2 hour job. Is it really that much better to put the starter under the intake?

Might be able to go one better – on the Mini Cooper, the power steering pump is cooled by a fan, very much like a computer cooling fan, mounted next to the pump, so when the fan takes a hike… drives like a Mack truck…

LOL. It seems like almost every car has it’s design flaws. Changing a headlight on my ’04 Accord is awful. It requires the removal of the front wheel well and some contortionist maneuvers with an arm! Oil changes, though, are a breeze!

The worst thing they ever did was using Dexcool coolant. Apparently a class action lawsuit in the state of New York for owners of ‘dozens of models across 10 model years’.

In their infinite wisdom, GM used the Dexcool coolant, which was incompatible with the intake manifold gaskets on tons of their V6 engines, one of which happened to be my 2000 S10. Completely destroyed the gasket. $800.00 repair job at the time (about 7 years ago), dealer would take no ownership.

X2 DFresh. Replaced the lower intake 3 times in 11 years on the wifes Montana. They did come out with a new metal/rubber gasket a few years ago which they claim will last much longer -time will tell.

I miss my 76 Dodge Ram. When I worked on the engine and got tired, I just climbed in and shut the hood for a while.

If I was a little smaller, I could do that on my Sequoia. There’s a lot of room under that hood. Almost makes up for the fact that I need to drop the skid plate to change the oil filter
