Maybe I’m just getting to old. Can somebody explain the fascination with the large tattoos people are getting? Do people really think they look good? I can’t understand women who do it on their backs, legs, arms. I have been to church and watched pretty young girls come walking down the aisle dressed in a nice dress. Then she gets past and there is a partial Tattoo showing on her back. Then you have those who have this thing on their necks going up towards their skull.

Back in the day we grew our hair long, but was able to cut it. Later kids dyed their hair, but it grew out. What will these people do when Tattoos go out of fashion?

    I guess I’m not condemning,although I don’t personally like them. I just don’t understand it.

I had a girlfriend who told me she was getting a tattoo on her back, came home with a dragon wrapped around her neck — No Thanks

I ran into a highschool classmate who use to work as a pediatrician but now uses a laser to remove tattoos. He said he can do a good job of removing them. Sounds like a good business to be in.

Its all personal preference. Some like blondes, some like brunettes. Some like tall people, some like short. Some like smooth clear skin, some like permanent scarring.

Personally I could careless what other people do.

However I don’t want to see them in my house…just ask my FD.

You guys didn’t see the show the other day about tatoos…and BRANDING by any chance?

They said the people that didn’t complete the branding were more likely to be quitters in other things in life.

I must be categorized as a none starter then.

PS I don’t think less of people that have them. But it doesn’t help me think more of them either.

    Where’s my “target” photo?

Can we throw lip rings into this post to. Is it only me that every time you see someone with one as first glance your not sure what you saw. 1st thought that pops into my head is “was that a herpe?”. Hate to say but that is the first impression and the rest of the impressions seem to go down hill from there.

Has anyone one ever seen someone that looks good with a lip ring?

I am not a big fan of tattoos either, but you can’t completely be against them, otherwise the field gets cut down to pretty much nothing. I found out from Facebook that my daughter got a tattoo. Michelle (FGF) has 2. Previous GF had 2 or 3.

Me? I don’t even wear a watch for crypes sake. I am not a big accessory guy I guess.

I have had fleeting thoughts of putting one on my arm. I mean, you only go around the merry go round once. Maybe a couple of my favorite species of fish. Maybe my favorite hockey team. I don’t think I could ever do a portrait of a significant other, relative, pet, whatever.

Don’t forget these people. I know piercings and poorly placed tattoos make the application/hiring process in our office much easier.

Oh I cannot stand ear disks. WTF is that anyway? I know, lets look through National Geographic and figure out our next “fashion statement”.

    I wouldn’t call it a fashion statement.

I personally like the ink. However, I like it strategically placed and done with some taste. To me, that means they aren’t wrapped up around your neck over the ear etc… However to each there own.

Like my father, I have rules for my house. Until you are paying all your own bills and living on your own, No Tats, No nose rings, No lip rings and No tongue rings. Of course, I still remember coming home for first time after getting my ear pierced. I’ll let you guess what a redneck from central SD would call his son. Funny thing, when I got my tat he didn’t even seem to care then.

From a professional perspective, I’ve not worked at a company that one would “fit in” if he/she was full of tats or piercings. Funny thing how hiring decisions are made.

    Some personal true life math:

    12 years of marriage x 42 year old wife + no tattoos + zero non-ear piercings < 25 year old girlfriend + 1 tattoo + 1 nose ring

    I have been converted.

pssst. Jesse. That’s why I put it in quotes!

The people that do it are normally making a statement of some sort.

The only “implied” statement I can see in tats and piercings is that the owner is severely illiterate. I’ve got needle tracks up and down both arms from whole blood and platelet donations. They are a sign of my statement.

Nice to hear anybody with a tattoo is illiterate…uh huh..sure.

I’m thinking it’s not the tat people showing their ignorance here.

When I was younger and working in the trades I remember all the older guys who had horrible looking tattoos on their arms. I decided right then that was not something I wanted when I was 50.

Now as a guy who hires trade people, mainly carpenters, I have a hard time with a guy with great skills who has huge tattoos on their arms working in a professional occupied building. It does not show my company in a positive light. Just my humble opinion.

If you want to do it, good for you, but understand it may decrease the opportunity for your future endeavors, now choose to put it somewhere that can be hidden in a work/professional situation and I say do what makes you happy.

Every neck tattoo I have ever seen says the same thing “unemployable”

Kind of the same thing with “sleeves”. I’ve got a friend who is a pipe fitter and makes a lot of money. But every time we hang out I can’t help but think, “I wouldn’t hire you”. And I know for a fact he’s 110% reliable, dependable, and his work ethic is second to none.

I know a teacher named Michael that first impression you would think is the cleanest cut guy in America. He is well spoken, well groomed, and comes across as the All American Boy Next Door….. But he has a secret! Under those long sleeve shirts he is quite illustrated and he plays in an alt-rock band on the weekends. Hey he is a great teacher and a great guy; but he is smart enough to know he has to keep those tats hidden to make it as a teacher.

and I am guessing that the 17 year difference has nothing to do with the conversion.

I saw a gal a while back on the beach that had more hardware than was in my tacklebox ! Two rows of about 12-16 rings up each side and two rows up each side of her back and each set of rings were all laced up with a ribbon tied at the bottom with a bow. I didn’t get a good look at her face and ears, but I bet they were full too ! Seems to me the more “advanced” our society gets the more we revert back to savages !

The one that really made me laugh was a tattoo on a contractor at work…he had a dotted line around his neck with the words ” cut on dotted line” below it…… thought somebody should take him up on it !

I remember in Basic training my battle buddy being all full of himself for not failing out got a tattoo on his shoulder of a Tweety bird. We all laughed at him for days. I imagine folks are still laughing at him. Then there was the other guy that wanted an earing and managed to choose the wrong one. Make sure you have your side right and something manly like a Packer helmet or a motion W that will never go out of style. No tats here but I don’t care what others do with their own skin.

My wife just added 3 to her back shoulder blade, really it pissed me off, I just don’t like them, she knew, but didn’t care. Her can be pretty much covered up, but I like her less covered if you know what I mean….

Pretty sure it’s not something I’ll do someday, I can’t for the life of me figure out what I’d get anyways.

But to each their own, in most cases in think they look bad on people, but some are pretty cool.
