Looking for info to get into CANADA with DWI conviction and 5 years have passed. Do I just show up at the gate or do I get turned away?

Here is my case. Dec 1998… DWI (dam)…. June 1999, fishing in Sioux Narrows… no problems. 2001, fishing in Ontario, no problems. 2002, June fishing in N Manitoba, no problems. 2004 June, same, no problem. 2006 June, same, no issues. 2009 spring, Bear hunt (brought guns in) and fishing, no problems. Fall 2009, same (more guns), no problems. 2011, spring bear hunt, N Manitoba again, no problems. Either I am the luckiest guy in the world, or there is no hard scientific answer. I couldn’t have been ducking it that many times… BTW, I have always heard after 10 years, you are considered reformed.

I am pretty sure you will get turned away. I’d call first but wouldn’t give my name. Ps. There are plenty of great lakes and places here in the good ol U S of A!!! Did you see the stock market today? Let’s keep the cash here.

It all depends on the Border agent if he wants to check you or not. A person with a criminal record might have to file paperwork with the canadan consulat in Detroit depending on their conviction. The consulat in Minneapolis does not have an Immigration office and can not help with this issue so you have to go through Detroit.

Here is the link that gives you the information you are looking for.

If you are dead set on attempting to enter Canada as a felon which you are in there eyes. I would have a back up plan if you get denied entry which is very possible. Personally I wouldn’t chance being left at the border as your buddies continue onward but have a transportation and or lodging plan in place just in-case things go bad.

my friend had a DWI conviction and we crossed into Manitoba and we had no problems. Most years we used my vehicle and a few we took his truck no problems either way. Good Luck!

X2, some make it, some don’t….have a plan in case your one of the “don’t” crowd.
Calling to make sure (get a name) is what I’d do first.

We went to Manitoba in June. My fishing buddy has old dwi. They never even asked us, they were just concerned about guns.

I had a darn DUI ticket 23 years ago.

About 8 years ago I crossed with any issue at all.

Am I ok or is that still not long enough ago?

    Dumb mistakes.
