Creek chub bite that is. No sense of buying bait when it’s free in the creeks.

I was planning on going to the Mn river tomorrow for some eyes and sauger.

I needed some good bait so I went to the Highland creek in Arlington and laid the smackdown on the creek chubs.

Got about 4 dozen from 2-6″.

Today’s lure was a JB Lures Ju-Ju in chartruese with a small piece of crawler for some meat and scent.

The current was a bit fast but one could still see the line jumped when they hit.

Nothing better than some some juicy creek chubs for eyes on the river.

The creek chubs would hit the worn as fast as it hit the water.

Gotta love a hot bite for bait like that.

BK, for me, the Mn river has had a great bite for the past month when we could get on the river when the landings were not full of water.

One of the best years to date for eyes and saugers this year so far.

I have not even went after those bottom feeders you like as I have not wanted to put my eye rod down.

Cannot do the picture thingie yet as I have not replaced my camera since it got wet on Rainy earlier this season.

BK, you ever use the larger creek chubs for flats?

They work pretty good at times.

    Yup, creek chubs are great.

My problem with them is I have to go catch them. Catching them isn’t the problem, it’s the time involved in catching them.

Well that and I catch too many of them scaly bottom feeders some call walleye.

    ICK!

Chubs are my favorite bait by far. I’ve had a nice supply since early may. I’m sure a few I caught yesterday fought harder than any walleye I’ve caught.

Probably not a bad idea to chase some eyeballs. Slow cat bite right now. I heard some good reports around henderson area though. Good luck!

    Nice chub Dtro.

Are the flat’s done spawning yet Dtro?

I may also take a cat rod along with some larger chubs and try for a flat. I am going about 4:30 am.

I think you know the area I am fishing and the sandbar moved this year but the eyes are still there and there are always a few flats hanging around.

I caught some nice eyes in the creeks on the Minnesota earlier in the year, haven’t been out walleye fishing since the catfishing there has been so good.. might be time to switch it up a bit though.

So true! Catch the walleye, smoke the cheeks and return the rest of that scaly thing to the river! Then wash your hands. YUCK!!

You have the eyes mixed up with eels.

last trip I caught one and they are a goofy looking critter to say the least.

I will save one if I catch another and you can smoke and eat that BK.

Let us know how you like it.

I will eat those yukky eyes, cheeks and all.

…used to catch these lunkers in the Cannon River and tributaries on tiny fuflu jigs and waxies in September to use shorefishing for hog wallies in shallow Somn lakes
on nights when the frogs were crossing the roads. That was back in the days of earlier World Series when you could listen to the games on van radio while using a spotlite to minitor the cigaraet pack foil your rod on a forked stick. How’s that for nostalgia and hi-tech?
