CSBSJU Fishing

    I did a college visit at St. John’s/St. Ben’s a few days ago. I know they have a fishing club and a few lakes on campus, but neither of our tour guides could tell us anything about the quality of the fishing or the species. Do any of you know anything about any lakes on or near campus?

    I grew up near and went to SJU. I wasn’t part of any outdoor clubs but it sounds like a great time. There are plenty of great lakes local to SJU and then add in the Mississippi for smallies and even muskies if that’s what you’re after. Shoot me a PM and I can give you some more details.

    My boy is a Johnnie and he fished the local lakes around the campus. He found fairly good fishing for crappie, sunfish,northern & bass. Bass fishing he found was very good!! My boy really loved it there, it is a beautiful place. Very peaceful.

    Class of ’03

    There is good fishing on campus and also nearby. Lake Sag is a pretty good fishery. If you can get your hands on a canoe (it’s a no motor lake), you should do well for panfish, pike, and largemouth bass. You can also rent canoes, but if you have your own, you don’t have to rely on their rules and hours. Ice fishing Sag is popular, too. I have not personally fished Gemini and Stumpf, the lakes on your right and left as you enter campus, but Gemini kicks out some decent pannies and bass and Stumpf is full of pike. Outside of campus, there is plenty of good fishing in the area! Sag is a gem, though, because it hardly has any pressure.

    So you were a freshman when i was as sr Ralph. Ever party at the Bullpen? That was my pad for 2 years. I think we charged freshman an extra $1 for a glass

    Yup! Not sure if I was ever at the Bullpen my freshman year, but I worked with a guy or two that lived there after that.
