My friend was up in this area last week and fishing was terrible. I am coming up this Friday for the week. Wondering about any tips or techniques that are working – for any kind of fish?

lot’s of lakes in that area… I would check with the locals as far as a hot bite. Pretty much dog days settled in, but you should for sure be able to catch pannies and northerns Have a great week oh and even some grass carp too…

We just got back from there less than two hours ago! With the exception of two years, we have been going up there this same week for the last 16 years.

I will have to admit that the fishing was “different” than years past. There also were a lot of floating weeds in areas that we traditionally troll with success. Bass were very short hitters at the beginning of the week. Went to a C-rig and down sized. This helped a bit with numbers, but never got into anything to write home about. LM were caught this way in depths of 3ft-18ft. A white swim-jig also produced small northerns and LB. Look for subtle transitions in depth and inside weed edges. Panfish even had to be aggressively jigged for under a bobber. We had most success with pieces of crawler with mini mites.

I gave up very early in the week on walleye. This is the first visit we did not land a legal eye. But, I would say we only spent 3 hours at the most focused on them.

With my 2 and 4 years old hooked on fishing, we spent most outings keeping them happy with the pan fish bite.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any specific questions. I think you are in for some stable weather this week. That shold help immensely.

    Adam,
    Welcome to IDO.
I have not been on Pelican for a few years, do you have a boat?

I used to keep my boat on my trailer most of the time, and would trailer to different lakes in the area for different species.
Head down to Nisswa, and ask at the bait shop what’s going in the area and that you’re visiting for a week. They should be happy to help you.
    Good Luck,
    Jack
