Just returned from picking up new Lund tunnel Jon in southwest Missouri–not far from Truman lake. Fished Truman lake tailwaters from shore with 1/8 ounce chartreuse twister.
Other lures might have worked, but didn’t have to try any–walleyes to 28 inches, hybrid stripers to five pounds, crappies, white bass, largemouth. This incredible fishery is known for bass and crappie fishing. It’s about three hours via interstate from St. Louis, so figure how long it takes to get to the gateway city and go from there. Level on the reservoir pool is about 7 feet up. Bass and crappies back in the brush. Both should be real shallow and pre-spawn berzerko about April 20. Big draw is hybrid stripers between nownand then–fish up to 20 pounds. Using heavy mylar jigs, Rat-L-Traps, Roadrunners–essentially anything which will work for white bass. Osage Bluff Lodge is a good place to stay–right on the lake in the state park. phone 800 748-8440, website http://www.osageblufflodge.com
