Train in Rice Creek.

Anyone get any photos of the train wreck in Rice Creek in Fridley over the weekend? Caught a quick glimpse on the news. Sounds like the rain washed out the bridge footings and the train collapsed it. Looked to be a half dozen or better train cars sandwiched up in there.

What is a little surprising is the lack of talk about the Northstar commuter train running those same lines. That would of been a heck of a disaster if it had been the Northstar full of people.

Might have to take a drive down there later today and see what it looks like.

Hey Mike. I live less than a mile from there and actually fish in that area for carp quite a bit. You can’t get too close to it as there are squads and work crews out.

The best video I have seen in from KSTP. There is a lot of corn spilled in the water there and they have booms out to try to catch the diesel fuel.

One of my first thoughts was that the carp in that area would hav e no problem getting plump and fat with all that food.
I am glad that no one got hurt from either being on a passenger train or on the bike trail the runs right there also. When we watched it on the news, my daughter was watching and looked at me and said “I recognize that area didn’t we ride our bike under the tracks right there a few weeks ago?” Yes, was the answer to her question.

Seriously. Kids hang out on and under that train bridge all the time. Could have been much worse!

We are really lucky that was the first one through Saturday. Only 2 people on board and hauling corn. I stopped by this morning after work. They have all but maybe 7 cars removed. They are concentrating on getting one of the lines back up and running. They brought in a bunch of prefabbed concrete and track sections. Here some clean-up pix from Sunday.

If I used the Northstar,I might take a break until it dries up a bit. I don’t care how safe they say it is.
