Then they came for Coors, I wasnt a Coors drinker, so I said nothing.

I just find it interesting that the state can’t function in order to renew the license, yet it can somehow enforce the ban? You would think that if they can fund the enforcement, why wouldn’t they be able to fund/function the renewal? Anywho, I am interested to figure out what the facts really are.
EXACTLY! I’d just keep on selling

It’s business as usual according to the Journal-Sentinel.
Sounds like this whole thread is BS. Glad to know my MGD will be there waiting for me.

Could always brew your own. That way you can make what you like.
LOL! Who wants to brew their own Miller or Coors? Why waste good malt and hops.
July 13, 2011 at 3:57 pm #980459Sound like most of this thread is true.. but some dude named Green is clearing it up with the state.
July 13, 2011 at 4:21 pm #980474Here is the story from the Star Trib.
Shutdown forces MillerCoors to pull beer from shelves
Miller Time in Minnesota is over — until lawmakers reach a budget deal.
The state’s government shutdown, now in its 13th day, will soon force MillerCoors to pull all of its beer from Minnesota liquor stores, bars and restaurants. A state official says law requires the company to remove products like Coors Light, Miller Lite and Blue Moon imminently.
“I would suspect within days to see that product leave the shelves,” said Doug Neville, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.
A MillerCoors spokesman said they are fighting the decision, which would decimate one of its largest markets in the country.
“Right now we are exploring all options that are available to us,” said spokesman Julian Green. “We are currently in discussions and hoping that we can get a resolution with the state, with the agency that enforces the sale … of alcohol.”
Neville says MillerCoors must remove the product because they did not renew their brand label registration with the state before the shutdown began. By law, brewers must renew those registrations — which show the label on each brand of beer — every three years.
The company tried to renew in mid-June, but the process got delayed when they wrote a check for too much money. Green said they sent in a new check, which the state received on June 27, but nonetheless received a letter three days later saying their brand licenses had expired.
Neville said his agency has asked MillerCoors to develop a plan to remove the product from shelves and cease their distribution. He added that Anheuser-Busch will face a similar problem if the shutdown extends to October.
Green said they are not currently working on that plan, hoping they can overturn the decision.
July 13, 2011 at 4:37 pm #980480There are 58 minutes between these postings. Things sure changed during that time. Or maybe Julian Green should run for office in MN? Fit right in…

Is Minnesota running out of beer?
It would seem so after reports surfaced that one consequence of the ongoing government shutdown in Minnesota is that breweries, distillers, distributors and liquor and beer stores don’t have licensing authority to keep selling alcohol.
And one big brewer – MillerCoors – is apparently caught in the middle of it.
Minnesota state officials have told MillerCoors that it must come up with a plan to remove its beer from store shelves because the brewer failed to renew its brand license with the state before the shutdown.
But MillerCoors spokesman Julian Green said those reports were false. It’s business as usual for MillerCoors in Minnesota for now, he said.
Green said the company complied with all applicable state laws, sent its registration and fees to the state on time and is working with Minnesota authorities to clear up the matter.
“We are feeling the pain just like other licensees, but we are working with the state to clear this up,” Green said.
Green said Minnesota is one of the brewer’s largest markets. “We have pretty significant volume there,” Green said.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that thousands of liquor outlets in the state scrambled to renew their state-issued liquor purchasing cards, but didn’t make it in time before the government shut down.
“It’s going to cripple our industry,” Frank Ball, executive director of the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association, told the Star Tribune.
There are also reports that Anheuser-Busch will face a similar problem as MillerCoors if the government shutdown lingers, the newspaper reported.

July 13, 2011 at 5:45 pm #980521Thanks for the shove. I better pick up some Coors Light for the missus. I am versatile in the ways of beer. She is not.
July 14, 2011 at 3:06 pm #980642I am surprised that a company with sales in the amounts they have are allowed to get by with only paying $30 per label for this license that is creating such a stink.
Heck, I pay more then that for my boiler license.
