Comedy hour at the boat ramp.

Just got done pulling my boat out of the water (quick and clean as normal) when the comedy began. A guy towing his 19 foot Crestliner and 70 hp motor with…..you guessed it…a civic. I almost had to pick my jaw up off the ground and keep my laughs on the inside when i saw that one. On top of that, it is a shallow ramp (my back tires of my Sierra are usually just into the water with my small boat). He backs his boat to the water and it barely was in the water. I was a courteous guy and helped his son push the boat off the trailer. All I can say is i feel sorry for that poor transmission and I hope he doesn’t have to ever stop quickly behind me.

    Ummmm… I “DID NOT” guess a Civic…

Give the guy credit… the money he saves M-F driving to work, afforded him a 19′ Boat to fish on the weekend

it could have been much worse you could have been waiting to pull out after him

That is what i was thinking seeing the poor guy that came in about 3 mins after me….waiting for him to get launched. A big reason I helped him get off the trailer so the other guy could get in.

I agree not the best/safest set up.

Good job giving the guy a hand though

I always look at it this way….help other people when they need a hand and they may help someone else or or myself if i am in a bind.

You should have asked him, “what’s with the Civic….Harley in the shop ?”

Last week we were grilling burgers at a park on Mille Lacs and a guy and a gal were putting their boat on a trailer. The guy was standing in the bow while the girl attempted to crank the boat up. That always makes it a lot easier

At Long Lake in New Brighton have seen a guy launch a 16′ fiberglass boat and recover it with a Cavalier. More power to ya, I guess…

I see lot’s of boats being towed by cars in fact my first boat was a 16′ Lund with a 25hp on it. I towed that thing all over the place with my Bonneville. Good to see people getting out and enjoying some fishing. A 19′ boat with a Honda Civic??? did you take any pics I just can’t picture that one.

I saw an older Plymouth Minivan pulling a 28 foot travel trailer last summer. We were in Montana [on the east side of the mountains yet] at a gas station when this guy pulled in next to us and he was from California. I asked how it towed. He said he had a transmission cooler installed and that it pulled just fine. I guess I’d pass on that one….imagine doing a panic brake pulling that critter.

A few years ago I saw a motorcycle pulling out a boat at Lilydale.

I had a hitch on my Mustang GT convertible. I got a few looks doing 0-60 in about 7 seconds towing a boat.

I have a family friend that is planning on pulling his 18’ Sea Ray from Clinton Iowa to Bemidji next week with a Toyota Rav 4. He says it’s rated to pull 3500 lbs. and tows the boat just fine. I hope he never has to stop it in a hurry some time.

See a lot of vehicles that “can tow” a trailer….it is always the stopping part that scares me.

Here’s a novel idea……..He should put a “Car In Push” sign on the back of the boat when going down the road, obviously the boat is “bigger” than the “Civic”….

Hmmm…. Maybe I should put a hitch on my Matrix and get back in the game. It is all wheel drive…. Then again maybe not.
