I think Capps needs to be the guy to go. That first pitch was terrible last night. Seems Gardy thinks Perkins can lock down the games so lets give him a chance. I was torn between Capps and Nathan as the guy who needed to be traded. Now I think it’s Capps because he will bring the most in return and has the least value in my mind. Spans job is in serious jeopardy. Revere just keeps getting a couple of hits and scoring runs. Most importantly he can run the ball down and make the catch!

    Don’t forget………..noon start today!!

    Only 7 games back.

After today it’s on to Chicago for four games.

Can’t wait for Chicago. Nothing better than beating up on the Whities!!

Any chance Nathan is ready to take his old job back? Perkins was put in out of necessity. Capps was sucking air and lefty Damon was up.

I wouldn’t do Nathan yet. He is doing a better job with the 8th inning. I think just keep him there all year and try the closers role if we still have him next spring. Every once in a while he has a confused look on his face after a pitch. It’s like he can’t believe he doesn’t have the same fastball he use to have.

I’m not a big Perkins fan, but he seems to have gotten his head straightened out and is pumping strikes again. So why not give him a shot?

I defer to you on this anyway Eric. You see a lot more games then I do. Would you trade Capps?

Do you want to trade him just to get rid of him or get someone valuable that we can use either this year or in the future?

Problem with trading him is that every other team knows he’s struggling, so what are they going to give up? Would have to be a contender now who loses their closer.

Packaging him with Span might get good value, but what do you want to pick up?

Capps has some contract left which should be a asset to a buyer. I would trade for a bullpen arm and a double A middle infielder with some promise. Whether Capps struggles or not he still is a closer. Closers carry value, especially if they have years left on their contract.

Span I don’t care if we trade or not. Young is more of a issue for me then Span. Really we could package both of them along with Liriano and really, really make me happy.

St. Louis comes to mind as a team needing a closer. Philly needs bullpen arms. Yankee’s if Rivera’s arm trouble is serious. They could move Hughes to the pen and start Liriano. Texas has pitching problems. Dodgers, well they are the Dodgers and need everything!

Capps is only signed through this year- he was arbitration eligible this year and we signed him to a 1 yr. deal. He is a FA after this year.

The Twins still need to decide if they are buyers or sellers. It is amazing how close they are with all the injuries. Thome, Morneau, Mauer, Young, Span, Nishi, etc…. all missing significant time to injury.
If they buy- they will probably look to add bullpen arms or infield help. They can trade away an outfielder for one or both of these positions. The problem is there have been so many injuries to the OF- Young, Span and Kubel are all on the DL now. So, I’m not sure they can trade any of these guys until they get healthy- if they do. Don’t want to run Repko out there daily.

Oh, Plouffe hit 3 hr’s in a DH yesterday…Can we get him and his bat back up here for some RH power? He has been playing 1B and many other positions back at AAA. Time to give him the 1B glove and let Cuddy play RF with all these injuries. Hughes isn’t hitting up here right now.

I was at the game last night and when Capps gave up that first pitch dinger to Upton, the boo-birds were out in full-force. I almost felt sorry for the guy.

I say trade Delmon and Capps. Put Revere in left and Span in center. Revere is hitting way better than Delmon and there is no comparison for the defensive improvement it would be.

If the Twins ARE contenders I would trade for MORE bullpen help…If they fade this month (I hope not) I would then trade Capps and/or Nathan and begin rebuilding the bullpen for 2012.

Capps would be a super tough trade. He is pitching terrible right now adn his contract is way bad. 7.5 mill, prob like 3.5 remaining? We would have to eat most of that to move him, plus he wouldn’t fetch much.
Our best trading chips right now are Cuddyer, Liriano, or Baker. These guys will net the most, however, they are also alot of the reason for our resurgance.

I say “see ya Delmon” for maybe a prospective starting pitcher or bullpen reliever or perhaps a minor league prospective 1st basemen cuz idk how morneau is going to turn out. Right now we can’t get rid of cuddy cuz he has been a big part of our turn around thus far. Capps can go with Young for at least something, just about anything in return would be better than what we had. Once span/kubel returns the outfield will have to be span, revere, and kubel with cuddy at first since Hughes cant even come close to proving himself at the plate…. Just my $.02
