Can anyone recommend a new prop for a Yammie 115? I still use the stock aluminum prop that came with the motor (2008) and I’m thinking about upgrading. Please include ballpark cost, and what enhanced performance I should expect. I run this motor on a Dominator 175 and i can peak out speed wise at 41 mph. Thanks!

I am not a prop guy; but I switched to a stainless steel prop on mine a couple of years after I got the boat and never looked back. That prop is still on there 8 years later with no issues. Before I switched I had mangled at least 3 aluminum props.

If your old prop works fine, (satisfactory hole shot, gas milage, upper end speed and hitting target RPM), I wouldn’t change anything unless you have a specific problem.

Save the money for a new rod or something.

I doubt you’d gain a whole heck of a lot of performance from a new prop, unless you current prop isn’t the right diameter/pitch for your rig. Stainless will maybe gain you 1-2 mph, but you’ll pay for it. (it will be less prone to dings and such, though, and hole shot might be better with stainless vs aluminum)

    Aluminum will cost probably $100+

    Stainless can run $300-$800.

If you decide to change, work with a shop who will let you test drive all the props on your rig. Log your hole shots, upper end speeds, RPM’s, etc vs which pitch/diameter/composition (SS vs AL)…

It can be a pain, but who knows – maybe you have the time and will enjoy doing the testing. If you do it, good luck… But if your current prop is working fine for you, you might want to consider saving some time and $$.

That being said, if you don’t have a spare prop, its always good to have one. You could use this opportunity to test out new props and use your old one as a backup when/if you find a new one that works for you.

I wouldn’t expect massive results though, more like very minor improvements, if any… Probably won’t be hitting 50mph or anything like that….

    2 cents.

I have a 115 Yammy on my 1750 Crestliner…I’ve tried umpteen props over the years and 19″ stock prop works the best for overall performance…depending on your motor set up. I can get about 39-40 mph and the holeshot, etc is good. Tried a 20″ SS prop and gained 1.5 mph and better hi speed cornering, but at $575???

I have a 97 merc 115 on an alum ranger. Peaks at 45 with two people and a half tank of gas (32gal tank). I’m running a laser II stainless prop I believe it is. Don’t know the pitch offhand. Not sure the laser II fits yamis though.

I guess it all depends on what your needs are. For me it was expensive short term; but it saved money long term. Not having a bent and or dinged up prop for 8 years cost me nothing.

Glad to hear that SS prop has been holding up well for you. After my stock aluminum broke last fall, I found a deal on a 4 blade stainless and opted for that one. I couldn’t find a new aluminum that would preform the same as my original aluminum for some reason. So far so good, and it improved my hole shot and top end speed by a bit. Hopefully it will be every bit as durable as yours!

What RPM are you maxing out at right now when your trimmed out and have an average load in the boat
    (including gas)?

What needs improvement? Hole shot, bow lift, speed?

As far as props, Power Tech would be a brand that is decent priced and is good quality. I paid about $325 for the Powertech on my 1850 Crestliner with an F115, and have good hole shot and can consistently run 37.5 mph with larger loads. Works good for pulling skiers and can keep a good bite when cornering. WAY better than the hustler aluminum that was on there when I got the boat.

Check out PropMD if you are in the cities, they will let you exchange the prop to get you what you need.
