    Help needed!

I received a virus Friday!!! Trojan fake alert, Exploit Drop2, Melware trace, Trojen agent. Free AVG did not stop it!I used Melware bytes to remove them. Now everything except my printer seems to work properly. Some how the printer hardware was removed from the computer. If I try to print, the message comes up printer spooler not working. If I try to install the printer hardware the printer states new hardware detected but will not install. Message comes up Rpc server unavailable.

    I am using Xp Home

I have Googled the problem and can not come up with a fix.

    Thanks, Bruce

format your drive and re-install windows. if you are prone to these sorts of problems and don’t have any special computing needs beyond browsing the internet, checking email, etc. you may want to consider using Ubuntu Linux, for which there are really no known viruses or threats..

If you are a Comcast customer you can download Nortan Antivirus for free and use that. AVG is OK but you get what you pay for with it. Uninstall and reinstall the printer to see if that gets it working. You can download Spywareblaster and Spybot Search & Destroy for free and these are decent at cleaning up a system. If all else fails, then you need to back up your personal files, format your hard drive to wipe it clean and start from scratch.

Right click on the My Computer icon on the desktop, then select properties. Click on the Hardware Tab, then Device Manger tab. Look for the printers. Is there a yellow exclamation point ! ? If so right click and select update driver. Are there any unknown devices or yellow exclamation points ! ? If so right click and select update driver.

Actually i would prefer AVG over Symantec, and Microsoft Security Essentials is better than both of them at detecting malware.

just because you pay for something, doesn’t mean its better…

symantec is terrible at stopping malware, is a resource hog, the security center that comcast gives you makes it a pain in the rear to use your pc.

Thanks for all the help and ideas for fixing my computer problem. Special thanks to Sandmannd for suggesting Spybot. Spybot search and destroy got it working again.

    Way to go IDO
