So the rest stops are closed. Are they Baracaded? or just the buildings and such? gonna try to use one as a meeting point on the road so wondering if the “parking” parts are accessible?

The ones that I have seen have been barricaded.
And that makes no sense…..where do truckers pull over when they’ve timed out??? Just politicians being politicians!!

Were did truckers pull over when they “timed out” prior to building million dollar rest stops.
Sure is nice to have well manicured lawns, and shrubs along with someone to mop up spills and put out wet floor signs.
Now before any State Rest Stop Worker goes off on me….it’s nothing personal.
…and putting up barricades so the parking lot can’t be used is bogus too.

Totally bogus. I wonder how much it cost to pay people to put them up?
About the same it is going to cost while taking them back down
uglystick007Posts: 46July 3, 2011 at 7:23 pm #978119My neighbor works at a rest stop and he is a contracted employee (NO STATE BENIES).
He talks to many people every day and the consensus is none of the current politicians will see another term in office………
MN DOT closed the rest stops a day early also.Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559July 3, 2011 at 7:44 pm #978122A lot of volunteers helped out those rest areas too. Now if one of those politicians stopped at a local farm and asked to use the biffie to take a dump, those should be pointed right to the nearest rest stop.
July 3, 2011 at 7:54 pm #978123What a good excuse to stop at some of the smaller gas stations and little towns spend a little and help out some local economy.
Really what’s the big deal? Plenty of places to stop, maybe not as quick or easy, but you may discover something new or interesting along the way. Personally I love driving anywhere new and finding new places.
Slow down take some time to actually explore mn.
July 4, 2011 at 3:04 am #978165thanks NICK for the usefull reply.
we had previously arranged to meet at a particular rest stop because of familiarity. Obviously we will stop somewhere else. I really am glad you like to drive around the country side but when I am going to Canada fishing i will see plenty of country taking the shortest route. thanks again bud.
July 4, 2011 at 6:59 am #978171Well now sounds like you really need the trip to get the wadded up panties out of your
Well I for the life of me can’t imagine getting worked up about rest stops, but to each their own.
Have a great safe trip!
July 4, 2011 at 11:08 am #978180I totally agree with Nick.
Most of the time to swing into a fast food or the local store just off the HWY it only takes another 10 minutes unless you are going to sit down. And a person is going to pick up a sandwich or at the least a soda.Have a safe trip, maybe you do need to slow down a bit and smell the roses
July 5, 2011 at 12:29 pm #978283Just to let everyone know, the government provided toilets were up and running in Wisconsin near Madison & Memomonie.
Normally, I stop at a small local gas station or Mcdonald’s off I-94, but I thought I would give the tax payers provided bathrooms a shot this time just to see what everyone is clammering about.
Turns out they work the same, who knew …
July 5, 2011 at 1:21 pm #978292What ???? The rest stops were closed ???? No wonder I am so tired this morning…..
