“As of midnight, June 30, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will be shutdown due to a state budget impasse”
Looks like my vacation to MN just got canceled.
Come to WI, we’re open!!
Sorry to hear this though. Sucks when exciting plans fall through over something as stupid as this.
Yes it does, especially when you have $1200 in it… guess I could go up there and watch the lake for a week.
I am confused. If it is a resort, how does the DNR closing affect you?
If the DNR is closed, is anyone going to be writting tickets for not having a lisense?
yes, like 186 conservation officers are considered pertinent, so they stay on duty.

buy one on line
sounds like he has until midnight tonight so…. get going on this
I would be curious to see a court case where someone faught a ticket and had back-up to prove that the State of MN refused to sell you a license.
This is not the same as the excuse of the store was closed. Its your privilege to fish with a valid license and its your right to purchase a license if you have not lost your privileges.
If you let this stop your trip you did’nt want to go in the first place. Sounds like your looking for any excuse not to go. Essential services will not shut down. The sun will rise.
1) go online and see if they will process. if so write back to this blog as i know of three other guys that i’ve given this URL to.
2)TRY to at least get a receipt for payment.
3) IF a warden is so naive that he writes you a ticket AND shown the receipt, then
4) i’ll get one of the journalists to get you a lawyer gratis AND I’ll donate $25 to the fund and i don’t even live in Minnesota… shouldn’t be too difficult.
life is hard enuf these days to have to go thru this…
UPDATE just got off the phone with a highly place CO that consults for me and was told that the DNR department directive is to hand out warnings with a compliance tag, i.e. send them a copy of the license after the state reopens.
he also said he understood that the license sales would be processed up to midnite certain.
i certainly wouldn’t let it stop me. the fish are still going to be biting…
I agree that I would LOVE to see a ticket for not having a fishing license while the state governments closure doesn’t allow a guy to purchase one. In my book go online and put it on your credit card. Keep the receipt and take your chances. Our State politicians should simply be ashamed of their inept ability to work within a timeline. None of these guys deserve re-election. NONE. I for one would not dream of canceling a fishing trip based on the fishing license BS. So the state of Minnesota feels we need to keep 186 essential wardens on, but can’t keep a few guys in the office to process online fishing licenses to fund the program?? What a joke.
I didnt know how to purchase online without going through the DNR website which is gone.. but thanks to the link provided here I was able to buy my license and the trip is saved! All is good now and I’m in a better mood, bring on the walleye.
Would you still be able to buy a license at Wal-Store after the shut down or ???
No, once its shut down at midnight nobody across the state, or online will be able to sell them.

do it on-line right now ???? license on line
9:45pm i still got on.
Enjoy your trip and am glad it worked out.
make a post on your trip went your done and don’t forget to add a few pics.
Jack
Glad to see you got your license.
Good luck on your trip and be sure to post a report upon your return!
Not to mention…If you are a Minnesota citizen it is in Article XIII of the state constitution indicating that it is your right to fish …I’d see a legal case here if they tried to enforce ticketing when licensing isn’t available.
“Sec. 12. Preservation of hunting and fishing. Hunting and fishing and the taking of game and fish are a valued part of our heritage that shall be forever preserved for the people and shall be managed by law and regulation for the public good. [Adopted, November 3, 1998]”
I bought a new boat which I am picking up on Saturday. I highly doubt Cabelas is able to get it licensed or get me numbers, but I am gonna be on the water nonetheless. Drastic times require drastic measures. Come on over and go fishing, we NEED your money!
