If you were going to spend two or three weeks maybe a month fishing for walleye what lake in Mn. would you choose? Something with reasonable prices for a cabin or motel would be a plus, but secondary to Great walleye fishing. Would not rule out Wi.

Hands down – my first choice for an extended walleye trip would be LOTW. I know of no place that offers better opportunities at numbers, size, opportunity to fish with multiple methods – and chance at a hawg. Plus – there is a vast array of lodging options.

Always lake Michigan if you include Wisc.

Maybe the Leech lake area too.

That’s a hard question to answer. Having just spending 10 days on Leech for an FLW tourny, it would be a great pick. So would LOTW and Rainy. But overall, Mille Lacs cant be beat. You can catch fish anywhere on the lake by lots of methods, and no matter how windy, you can find a bite somewhere on any side of the lake. Also you have the choice of relaxing and taking out a launch for around 30.00. Also has world class smallmouth fishery. Much closer to Iowa than some of the other super walleye lakes we are blessed with in the state of Minnesota. We dont have great sport teams, just great walleye fishing.

If I had to do one lake and know for sure I was going to get into some good eye fishing, it would be Rainy hands down. Some pig eyes and plenty of eaters.

One could also get5 into some of those slab crappie if they could find them and never leave out the large pike and the smallies.

Numerous places to stay in International Falls, try the Falls Motel or maybe Woody’s resort in Rainer.

Kelly at the Falls Motel in on the lake many days and he is very helpful with directing one to a good bite.

Woody at Woody’s could also be a help along with Chris Grandrud on Rainy.

Spent many days fishing that lake during the Musky inc tourny’s years back, I’d rather fish Cass than Women.

If your bringing your own boat, Cass, Women, Leech and at least a half dozen others are all a short drive from each other, pick a resort on Leech and if weather is to windy, try one of the smaller lakes in the area maybe.

The great thing about Minnesota is you’ve got a lot of good choices. Rainy, LOTW, Red, Vermillion, Kab, Mille lacs, Rainy River, Winnie, Leech, Ottertail……..Just to name a few. MANY MANY high quality smaller fisheries that simply don’t get the press.

I’m sure we all have our own personal favorites!!

Regardless of where you end up………Have a great time!!

I fish on Lake Vermilion and we just got a nice 10 pounder yesterday and my dad caught a 28″ last week. There’s a lot of really cheap hotels you can find up there in Tower, MN also. I only fish Vermilion and pretty much always will!

I agree, for a couple weeks trip, I’d run all the way to the north end of the state, and spend 3 or 4 days on a body of water. In 2-3 weeks, you could hit alot of lakes and really nail down any future trips, by what you learn. Fish 3 days, drive a couple hours towards home, fish another 3 days, drive a oouple hours and so on… either way “HAVE FUN” I am jealous

Woman isn’t as good as it used to be… From what I’ve been told, and after fishing it the last few years, when the word was HOT BITE on that lake it was pressured hard. Neither the quality nor quantity of fish is present like it used to be.

I sure would love to get back on Leech lake. And Woman is an hour away if you really want to give it a shot. There are still fish to be had in Woman but it isn’t nearly as good as Leech.

    Enjoy retirement!
