For those of you looking to tie into a few sunfish, the time is now in the north region. Stuck this giant last week that was knocking on the 2# door…

    Nish fish Matt.

The lake you and I use to fish while you were in college is giving up those dandy gills we use to catch.

    HUGE!

Looks like a bluegill to me. Greens and pumpkins have bigger mouths.

Yeah, I don’t think it is. The MN state Pupmkinseed is only 1 pound 6 ounces.

Really? Here’s a pumpkinseed for comparison. That one has no orange on the gill flap.

Vertical bars, black gill flap, small mouth–all points to bluegill to me

I would go along with the bluegill due to it’s size.

It would shatter the state record for many of the others.

Maybe some sort of hybrid also.

I got to get up to my sisters cabin. The panfish, while not that huge, are all big. Too bad it is such a rarity these days. At least it seems pretty rare unless you go a long ways.

You sure you weren’t by Prairie Island?

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a panfish that big. Wow.

Any gill that I would weigh, rather than tape, is closing in on 2lbs. Chris, have him take you there and prove it!

Breuer is right on the money… it’s a hybrid… I thought it was a pumpkin but not quite…

And just for the record, it weighed in at 1 pound 15 ounces and measured 11 7/8 inches… so maybe not “quite” 2 pounds there Wallace

    And yes, it’s still swimming
